Looks like were sharing Borough Park with the Rugby. Not against this idea, but would have loved Borough Park to be for football only.

Meeting not till next week. I much prefer football on a real grass surface, but if we're to share with the rugby, it needs to be an artificial pitch.

Town only play about 11 home games a season and most of them will be in may june july and august, can't see a problem with that.

Lay down a 5G pitch, solves any problems.

Let's hope this is sorted as soon as possible, the problem we have had and probably still so is there is too many people with their own agendas around, it's time political allegiances are put to one side and push through something that will benefit the club and with it the surrounding area

Am I the only one who wonders what the Chairman is up to? Is he finally admitting that he wants a "refitted" Borough Park to be the shared stadium with Workington Town AND that any plans for a new build joint stadium should be abandoned?
While the new Board's approach to the Team has been admirable, I can't admire the seemingly autocratic way the Chairman is dealing with the issue of what stadium is best for the LONG TERM future of Reds and Town. Should not a refurbished Borough Park be only a Plan B? Should the Chairman not be holding ABC to account on the promise of a new joint stadium as part of their so called Sports Village?
Does he want to do the Conservative Executive's dirty work for them? Not one of the Executive is from Workington (or Maryport) and the Conservatives can do what they have always wanted - stop any new stadium - and be able to say that they are merely doing what the Reds Board have asked them to do.

MBR do you actually think there is going to be any money available for a sports Village. this virus and pandemic is going to destroy the economy. that is just my guess anyway.

What is your agenda? you only seem to post on this subject, and are always questioning the Chairman's motives. The club is run and managed by the BoD, he only has one vote unless it is a casting one!

MBR you are delusional if you think that there is the remotest possibility of getting a new stadium. The best we can hope for is a redeveloped BP, that makes economic sense. Not the previous vanity project of a 14k capacity stadium motivated by three games for the RLFC World Cup.

Am I the only one who wonders what the Chairman is up to? MBR, I think you may well be the only person who thinks this way. Local Government is, frankly, financially broken at the moment. Some authorities are on the verge of issuing a section 114 report, which, in plain language, is something they must do by law, when they can't balance their books. They have been poorly reimbursed by government in relation to the impacts of Covid, even though Boris spouts some seemingly big numbers at us, when questioned. Authorities are being pushed into a corner and are having to cut even those services which they are required by law to provide. It would be political suicide to start such a scheme as was originally planned in the current climate, in my view. It is also hard to see a time sometime soon when the financial environment might improve enough to make the original scheme feasible. Even before Covid, the Council were questioning the value of the scheme. I am as sorry as anyone that we are in this position - I've been a supporter and season ticket holder for several decades, and have listened to endless debates and promises from various parties to improve facilities. No one would have been more delighted if we had been able to move to the new stadium on the deal supporters were told about late last year. And I think your comments about the board are more than a little unfair. I don't see the new chairman as being autocratic. There has to be a realism about the current position, and if that means that we go down the route of a smaller redevelopment, based on a longer lease, and access to other funds, perhaps topped up with more moderate council support, then that is perhaps what it has to be. Up until the sports village plans were produced, most supporters would have bitten the Council's arm off to get a 75 year lease. The current board have also communicated well with supporters since their take over at the end of last year. Communications and PR were not strengths of the old regime, which I moaned about on this forum. We've also had a couple of much bigger fund raising initiatives in the last few months, which have also raised the profile of the club, locally, regionally and even in the national press. I think most people have woken up, smelt the coffee and realised that things have changed and will not return to the pre Covid world we all lived in. We are, though, in a better place than many clubs, some of whom I fear may not survive. I'm increasingly confident about the future, even if that means we are most unlikely to see the sparkly stadium which was a distinct possibility, as recently as a year or so ago. Time to see things as they really are, I think.

Motion to grant a 75 year lease to Reds was lost by 27 votes to 16 (no abstentions). There was a lot of warm feeling for Reds, but several of the speakers spoke about the ongoing discussions about a scaled back new stadium for not backing the lease proposal. A typical politicians debate really, with barbed attacks on the other side and their stances on this matter. Cllr. Alan Smith suggested that the new 75 year lease would be an 'albatross' round the club's neck, although the proposer indicated that the lease has the club's support. Smith was full of ".... the other side killed off the super stadium..." and that Reds could play at Derwent park and would not become homeless then the current lease expires. Cllr. Sandwith suggested that moving to Derwent Park would be the 'death of Reds'. All the excitement can be played back on the Council's YouTube channel at www.youtube.com/channel/UCgQz6soGJ9gDKIV2TdNx2Hg (but fast forward to about 20 mins to avoid a lot of the introductory stuff).

Thanks for the link to the meeting, interesting to see where councillors loyalties lie,not sure I have trust in the leaders though to deliver the 'sports village 'but was good to hear Campbell-Savours state that if there is no progress in the next 6 months he would be looking for his group to switch to supporting the lease
