The whole stadium saga has been such a long drawn out process you tend to forget some of the negative comments and obstacles put up by the elected leaders and to be honest I dont trust the mp or have faith in the council (all parties after last week's events)however if this money is guaranteed alongside other grants and the sale of derwent park, I believe our current board of directors alongside towns will deliver us a modern, appropriate sized facility, look forward to some concrete plans going forward

How is this different to the last proposal? It seems pretty similar to me. The tories were generally against that one but in favour of this one. All very odd. Just watch who gets the contracts out of this. I wouldn't be suprised to see the main contractor to either be new to building sports stadia or a completly new company. And there will be connections through freinds and family to the tories.

Workington Reds have received a £4,000 donation from the Pitching In Northern Premier League for anew community project.
An application to the Pitching In Community Foundation was successful and the club’s own Foundation can develop what they have called the Friday Night project.

Great news, strengthens the clubs community ties,as someone who has been involved in junior football in the past it has always been an issue that some kids dont have the parental support to join clubs so this is a great boost for the youth of the town

Anyone know the latest? basically been no news since March when the funding was announced the last thing I read (I'm sure it was in the star) was both town and reds had until March next year to submit business plans for additional funding, I.e football foundation/Rugby league World Cup etc etc.

I follow progress at www.allerdale.gov.uk/en/workington/Tab down and you will find details of meetings (agendas and minutes) which cover the whole new towns scheme, of which the sports village and stadium is one project. The July meeting talks about the final business case being submitted by March 2022, which seems to have taken quite a long time, given that the funding was allocated in March 2021?

Really hope we will hear some encouraging news soon as things run very slowly with all the infighting in this council,I'm hearing that the conservatives of the solway plains aren't too keen on the project though, maybe time to push our tory mp as he seems to have developed a passion for football (although never seen him at the reds)
