Trivia question (to which I don't know the answer). How many times have Reds played a league fixture on that date Saturday 29 February?
Clitheroe were due to play at Pontefract midweek, but the game was postponed. That was Pontefract's 4th consecutive postponement. They have only one game in February back on the 8th when they lost at home to Brighouse.Clitheroe have played three games in February and are without a win.
Reds are 1st with 59 points from 27 games Clitheroe are 9th with 37 points from 26 games
Reds at home 10-3-0 Clitheroe away 4-3-4
Recent Clitheroe results: 22 Feb Clitheroe 1-3 Mossley 4 Feb Marske 0-0 Clitheroe 1 Feb Clitheroe 1-2 Pontefract 25 Jan Dunston 0-0 Clitheroe 18 Jan Clitheroe 2-2 Pickering 11 Jan Mossley 2-1 Clitheroe 7 Jan Clitheroe 1-2 Tadcaster 1 Jan Colne 0-1 Clitheroe
Reds overall since 1 Jan 8-1-1 Clitheroe overall since 1 Jan 1-3-4
Clitheroe defeated Reds 2-0 in the reverse fixture back in September
Top five fixtures today: Marine v Droylsden Marske v Ossett Pontefract v Mossley Ramsbottom v Kendal
All five would appear favourites on paper.
Ramsbottom still have a game in hand but are currently 4 points behind in 2nd place.
We have some big games coming up in March so need to keep up the winning run which now extends to 8 games.
Come on you Reds.

On this day For obvious reasons, we haven’t played too often on the 29 February in the past and the archives have just three entries of us turning out on this day. Back in 1928 we lost a North Eastern League game at Sunderland Reserves (0-4) but were celebrating eight years later after crushing Jarrow (6-0) at Lonsdale Park, John Huddart claiming a hat-trick on that afternoon in 1936. Our only other ‘Leap Year’ outing was in 1992 when we lost at Bridlington Town (2-3) with Sean Sunderland and Keith Glover netting our goals.

I was there in 1992, and if I remember correctly it was a cracking goal from Keith Glover! All the more commendable because when he got on the coach at Stainburn he looked as though he had been out all night.

Well Ash sitting in my office now just round the corner from BP I can tell you it is absolutely chucking it down and the wind is certainly picking up. Not sure how sodden the pitch is or how high the river will be tomorrow as both will be factors as to the game being on or off. Derwent park was very heavy last week and that has only recently had drainage put in. When are we going to get a dry Weekend ?

Tammy, Ponte and Marske all postponed. Marske and Ponte will be 6 games behind. A win today would ratchet up the pressure but they can beat us. A pity I'm away this week.

Impressive win in difficult playing conditions. Points in the bag are always better than games in hand to have to fit in an ever decreasing number of weeks.

A pulsating game of top class football from the reds, with the wind at their backs in the first halve reds set about Clitheroe creating chance after chance and where four up at the break.
In the second halve Clitheroe had the wind advantage but with the Reds resolute in defence they could only manage one goal, Reds did create further chances, amazing really considering that they were playing into driving rain and hail stones, unfortunately none of the chances where converted, cant wait to see the goals on the Reds You Tube site.
