How do, chaps
Not lived in Cumbria for well over 20 years now, but when growing up in the 1990s I used to watch the Reds maybe five or six times a season - being from Whitehaven and not a rugby fan, it was the best way to get a fix of live football. I've not been to Borough Park for well over 20 years since I left home, but have noticed the team playing well this season and may well take a trip up to Rambottom next week to see them (I live in Manchester) with the missus and hopefully see part of their promotion campaign.
I was hoping someone could fill in gaps in my memory of the first Reds game I saw, back in 1993. It would have been March 6th - not sure if anyone would have the result or even the team to hand? I'm pretty sure Billy Gilmour would have been playing, as my dad worked with him at Sellafield.

Hi Exile. It was a 2-1 win over Caernarfon Town. Reds team was Lee Copeland, Paul Doolan, Nigel Dustin, Graham Flynn, Malcolm Rice, Keith Glover, Lee Bowen, Billy Gilmour, Paul Campbell, Graham Caton & Danny Wheatley. Subs were John Holliday & Sean Sunderland - both used & replaced Rice & Gilmour. Reds goals were scored by Campbell & Caton, and the attendance was 227. Hope this helps.

Thank you, redray - that's much appreciated and seeing the info seemed to open up the memory banks a lot, especially re the players (John Holliday esp, as I believe he was ex-Carlisle and also used to write for the Gazette). Wish I'd kept the programmes from the games I went to, as I would fill in the results/scorers, but moved home so often in my 20s that plenty of stuff got lost along the way.
Surprised how low the crowd was - glad the Reds are pulling in better numbers these days.
