This sounds like footballs answer to the Duckworth Lewis rule in cricket. Good idea But easier to work out ....

Just to show how tight things are. If Workington had lost and Ponte won, the respective points per game would have been 2.19 and 2.20. If the season had ended now, Ponte would have automatic promotion. Will it mean the second club goes up if there's no play-offs possible?

I, like the rest of us on this Forum, am very much biased but I like the model of promotion but no relegation from current positions. If seasons cannot be completed, and the table as it stands (with points per game calculated) is taken as the finish line, then I would support winners being promoted. Next season, additional relegation place(s) can be brought in to resume the status quo.
Not sure about second promotion places - happy for a second team to go up but who should it be with lack of play off matches. I suppose points per game again, and the highest takes the place.
Whatever the decision, it will be tough on many teams. I can only hope that Reds, for once, benefit from any decision and don't get ripped off as is the norm with these things.
Tough times.

NPL have issued a statement this afternoon, which, in summary, says the league is suspended until further notice.

Frustrating but the right decision to suspend the season now.
Saturdays victory at Tadcaster could ve significant when a decision on way forward is decided by the F A . You are right Peter we deserve to benefit and I can see the no relegation option but promotion as a fair way to deal with the matter.Playoffs could be completed in 3 days if not.

Someone once said to me that Workington Reds invented bad luck. I have an awful feeling that the NPL, along with the other National leagues, will take the easy way out and declare the entire season null and void, meaning that when football does start again, we have the joy of visiting the likes of Pontefract and Pickering once more. I hope I'm wrong as that decision would be completely deflating after the magnificent season we have had, but it would be no surprise to see the NPL royally shaft us.

Agree this could well be the decision. FA should have the jurisdiction and apply to all leagues but can see them passing the buck to each league committee. It does look a strong possibility that the start of next season will be delayed anyway so why not finish this one first and then have a shortened season by playing each other once. Also dunno what's gonna happen with contracted players etc if no income coming in . Gonna take a lot of sorting just hope clubs at all levels can somehow get through.

Not quite correct, if Ponte had played and won they would average 2.12 (55/26), if they had won one more game they had already played they would average 2.20 (55/25).

I'm rather assuming that the lower leagues will take their stance based on what happens from the Premier League down, where the squabbling has already started.
Bit of perspective needed regarding the importance of sport in the current overall circumstances of course.

EFL Championship teams have voted unanimously to work towards completing the current season by end of June if possible.
This is probably the clearest indication as to what their preference is and that should trickle down the leagues
