Surely a semi professional footballer who has signed a contract and receives a wage from paying spectators should feel obliged to play in game where promotion is at stake. I like to think it's a step up from Sunday League. well said some one talking sence

Opinions will differ but now its time to move on.
Yesterdays game was a game between two quality teams who both deserve promotion for what they have done on the field over the full season.

I thought we did well to hang in there against a very good team, with so many of our players forced into playing out of position.
We started to get a foothold in the second half and we were the better team once Leslie came on and we had Clarke and Symington playing down the right. We still have a few that look short of touch and fitness after a season full of injuries, but can't fault the effort.
Hope the club's own camera got a good angle of the goal, because Plasky's video probably doesn't do it justice, it was an absolute cracker! What a way of putting the title race back into our own hands

In fairness to Sam he was a little unlucky with factors like Cotteril signing falling through and Harrison getting injured at Bootle making the situation worse. Ultimately the covid pandemic impacted many peoples lives and caused life events to be put on hold or need to be rearranged when they could be, often not to convenient dates. If it wasnt for Sam we wouldnt be in this position in the league so any talk of punishment for it is ridiculous
Back to the match, thought reds did well for the most part. Should have been ahead and only a mistake let Rylands in to score. They came with a game plan of sit deep, and hit on the break with pace which was very effective once we were 1-0 down and having to try and score. They really should have killed the game but perhaps the occasion got to them as they were unusually wasteful in front of goal
We didnt really look like scoring 2nd half for all the possession and play we had. But what a goal from Matty Clarke. From a standing start, postage stamp finish. He was excellent at bootle on the right as well, definitely more suited to that side.
Thought our midfield worked really hard to restrict space, Casson was superb all game (mistake aside) and the players handled being shifted about really well. Shame we didn't have our first choice defence as i think we'd have kept Rylands out and maybe nicked it 1-0 but it is what it is. I'd have taken a draw at the start of the game knowing we were not playing our strongest 11.
Rylands really an odd club. Their manager bangs on about being happy to have made the playoffs and no expectations and talks like they have come from no-where on a shoestring, they will comfortably be the biggest spenders in the division judging by their squad. Would have been nice for Reds to go out after a poor run of form and sign six players from higher levels on crowds of less than 300.
On to next week and not an easy task at Marine but probably the best stage of the season to play them. In our hands now we know what we need to do

Hope Sam buys Matty a drink, he's saved his bacon to a certain extent. Sam has been a great servant to the club and is the first name I would put on my teamsheet . . . however, there must be a clause in our contracts that binds players to 'service' when so much is at stake.

Some very uncalled for remarks on here about Sam Smith. Sam has been a colossus for Reds over the years and there are a lot of uninformed comments about his absence yesterday. Yes it was disappointing but it is wrong to criticise the lad without knowing the facts. He is a part time footballer and as such has other long-standing commitments to his family and friends. Get off his back and get yourselves to Marine to cheer Sam and the rest of the lads on to promotion. Here Here, I think Scotty, missed the match last week because some inconsiderate sod had arranged a wedding for the Saturday, bloody cheek.
So for all the Sam bashers, wind your necks in and get behind the team.

An intriguing game which had goalless draw written all over it - and when Warrington took the lead after an uncharacteristic defensive lapse, it was obvious it was going to take something special to get us back into it. And something special Matty Clarke's goal certainly was. It was worth the admission money on its own. It kept Reds' destiny in their own hands - and I hope off-the-field recriminations aren't allowed to get in the way of this final vital fortnight.

The wedding and stag do had been cancelled THREE times over the last two years due to covid. The wedding and stag do was "booked" at the start of the season. As I understand it Sam is best man and the stag do's organiser. The Club and Sam tried to get back earlier from the trip but it was not possible. It's part time football. That's life. Disappointing, yes. But get off his back he has been outstanding all season!! Other players have missed games this season due to personal reasons.

I like to think it's a step up from Sunday League. Sam Smith is a non contract player, he only gets paid when he plays. That fact negates the rest of your comment I would say.

People would do well to know the facts before spouting off about Sam Smiths situation. He has been one of our best, longest standing, loyalest players for years. On many occasions he turned out with injury etc and always put the club first. On the one occasion he put his family and friends first he is subject to this rubbish. He informed the club months ago of his intention and its the club responsibility to manage it. There is only one "disgrace" and that's the idiot throwing the word disgrace around on here. If Sam is so valuable to the club then maybe the club should reward him with a contract befitting his value to the club which will commit him to.playing...but then don't complain if he gets injured for 6 month and we have to pay him!! Sam's a credit to the club on and off the field and a great ambassador for the club. As much as I love the Reds I have no problem whatsoever with him putting family and friends first once in an illustrious career. Those people will be there for him long after the keyboards are put down.
