Not being a fantasy league player myself the subject of goal assists has been somewhat of a learning curve and since my last post on the subject I have discovered that players earning successfully converted penalties or direct free-kicks (via fouls or handball) also qualify for assists unless the player concerned also scores from the award. For example Brad Carroll earned an assist when he was brought down for Dav's first free-kick success of the season against City of Liverpool in the first home game.
I am now missing just two possible additions to the assist totals for the season so far which someone may be able to help me with - Rowan Roache's penalty at Trafford was given for hand-ball but I don't know if a Reds player provided the final ball and I don't know the nature of the offence that led to Dav's direct free-kick strike at Clitheroe.
These two queries aside I think the stats highlight Brad Carroll's value as attacking midfielder (and that loss to the team when he has to fill in at CB) and personally I do hope we don't have to resort to our leading goal-scorer and joint chief goal creators starting in the back-four any time soon!
I have added league appearances to the list and I was struck just how many games our strikers have missed this season through injury - Allison 24, Evangelinos 22 and Jerome 10 - I suspect with one or two of those proven goal-scorers available more often we would have been home and hosed already. Though our defensive resilience has been outstanding I think 68 goals from 35 games is a good return considering the lengthy absences of key attacking personnel, with top scorer Symington also missing 9 games.
