Good on ya Reds. Extended the season so we get a bonus game.........hopefully two bonus games...........at home. Rediscover our form and gain promotion after three years of trials and tribulations, on and off the field trying to climb back into the NPL Premier League. There is simply no way to hide the fact that we should not be involved in these play offs. We failed to do our job on Saturday. We could not control what would happen at Rylands, but for Bootle to do us such a massive favour, and we fail to look after our own affairs against such dire opposition is hard to take for all involved at Reds. As it is, we need to push on to the next game and make damn sure we get the job done at the second time of asking. We would have been hosting Runcorn, but the League managed to deduct Marine 3 points from a game back in October with a week of the season to go! How does that work?
Reds are 2nd with 84 points from 38 games Marine are 5th with 74 points from 38 games (3 points deducted)
Reds at home 13-4-2 Marine away 11-4-4
Recent Marine results: 23 April Marine 1-3 Leek 18 April Bootle 2-0 Marine 16 April Marine 2-1 Reds 9 April Colne 1-1 Marine 2 April Marine 0-0 Widnes 26 Mar Mossley 1-1 Marine 22 Mar Marine 0-2 Clitheroe 19 Mar Glossop NE 0-2 Marine 12 Mar Marine 1-0 1874 Northwich
Reds overall since 1 March 5-4-1 Marine overall since 1 March 3-3-3
Marine have only won once in their last seven fixtures. Somewhat painfully, that is the 2-1 over Reds on 16 April.
Play off fixtures will go to extra time and then penalties if required. If we manage to win this, we will be at home v Leek or Runcorn on Saturday. The incredible disappointment suffered at MDT now needs to be confined to our over filled history books. Let's have another 1000+ crowd, all getting behind the team and making sure we get this job done. Come on you Reds.

Couldn't agree more. These informative and consistent pre match posts add massively to my understanding and enjoyment as we go into games. Thanks so much.

And there we go. So predictable and to borrow the words of a regular contributor to this forum - so very sad.

And there we go. So predictable and to borrow the words of a regular contributor to this forum - so very sad. Promotion Thrown away completely Goose Sending Off vs Widnes Harrison Injury at Bootle Rigg missing that Penalty at Leek First Half Bottle Job at Marine Not scoring at Prescot Sam Smith Missing Rylands at Home Market Drayton Shambles Any of those dont happen and we probably didnt have this game tonight. Then conceding so late and not seeing it through.

Not often a side can lose the chance of promotion twice within 4 days. Now is not the time for knee jerk reaction but in the cold light of day it is right the BoD analyse the situation and have a clear plan of action to go again in August. It will not be any easier but Reds can rise again to the challenge in 2022-2023 , keep believing even though it hurts tonight

I would say I am disappointed but it's what I expected. Possibly the most reds season(s) ever.
Once again tonight we were not good enough. Very unlucky to concede so late, but also very lucky to be gifted the first and even the 2nd goal was poor goalkeeping. It says something when the Marine's goalkeeper was our best player.
If we are being honest, we are no longer the best or 2nd best side in this league. It's painfull to admit as the 2 seasons that were void, and early on this season we were superb.
The football is awful to watch, just seems to be kick and hope. We try to pounce on a mistake or hope someone pulls out some magic.
The difference showed tonight when marine needed a goal we were camped in our own half. No sniff of a break, counter attack or keeping posession. When we needed a goal we barely threated and marine almost broke several times.
The lads gave it their all, you can't knock their effort. They aren't all of a sudden poor footballers. But we are a poor team. IMO The squad was left a little thin back end of the season, we needed an few extra bodies here and there.
Something has to change for next season. It sounds crazy to look at our points total and question the manager but if he started a season the way we have finsihed this one he would be gone.

Fabulous assessment by Popside. Far more measured and balanced than I could manage right now, but I agree with every word.
How a team has transformed from being an absolute pleasure to watch (in the two null and void seasons) , to being a side that can barely string three passes together and has no game plan, is a mystery to me.
That said, as the players are largely the same, it is hard not to reach the obvious conclusion. It is also hard not to reach what feels like the most obvious solution.

Absolutely gutted with tonight's result, cant fault the effort though some very tired lads out there tonight. Fully expect a managerial change as well, have said it for weeks,we never seem properly prepared and unfortunately the buck has to stop somewhere. On the plus side ,a cracking atmosphere that's the sort of regular gate and vocal support we need to aim for consistently

just think yourselves lucky you weren't getting updates from your mates at the bar whilst working a mobbed city game in preston round a load of plastics, beside that this has definitely been the most reds season, dominate all season have postponed games come back to bite us, lose the tile on the final day to the bottom placed side and bottle a 2-1 lead on the last minute. typical bloody reds.

Clearly a problem between the manager and the players. How that bunch of lads can go from a team which was a pleasure to watch, to a team that have no direction and no game plan is behond belief. BOD have to make a big decision and replace the manager
