As well as winning the Cumberland Cup beating Reds on the way , they have today become Champions of Northern League Division 2 after a 3 O home win. Interestingly their star striker these last few weeks has been Reds keeper Jim Atkinsons brother Sam. Well done City who also have other ex Reds players in their ranks including Jordan Holt

Won their last 8 or so games to snatch the title on last day of season have said before but somehow we need to have some connections with these type of clubs to help develop players in the county, our young lads need that shorter step up from the county league before moving to the npl

I'm not too familiar with the league rules but if we could have some of our better reserve players on dual registrations with them that could be beneficial to both teams. I've always wondered why reds reserves play midweek. Don't seem to hear much about the young ones now either. Has the link between the reserves and 1st team broken down a little since the change of manager ?
Carlisle city and Penrith if they stay up only 1 division below the reds really does show how much reds need to get up at least 1 division.

Reserves dont play midweek anymore but have had a decent season in the county league, to be fair the club put regular match reports on social media but most of the players are only young lads and unless the 1st team manager is inviting them to training and getting them in and about the squad at some stage their development will stall,we seem to be doing brilliant stuff in the age groups but the hardest challenge is the switch to adult football. As far as I'm aware non contracted players can switch between the northern league and the north west counties at any time

Embarrassing that now only 1 league sits between us and Carlisle City
If we’re not careful we’ll stagnate at this level exactly like we did in the league above when we were promotion candidates every year til a sudden relegation

I was speaking to the parent of a reserve player and he seems to think the reserves and 1st team have cut ties a bit. Bit disappointing if true, with reds location we need to try and bring through players where we can. We don't have the luxury of being able to pick up young lads who drop out from FL clubs. Carlisle our only real option and many of their young players come from away and move back home if they don't make the grade.
