With another 1000+ crowd on Saturday it was evident once more that the ground struggles to cope with the sheer numbers in that area, yesterday the bar queue stretched the length of the clubhouse from 2.30 onwards and was therefore difficult to access the food area queue which seemed to be going in the opposite direction. With us now having 4 to 5 week until the next home game is there any plan to bring in separate outside catering/drinks to support the excellent service already provided.

I think westworld makes a good point, as putting a business hat on I always feel it can be a loss of revenue at peak times due to very long queues for catering. I often decide it to bother with a half time snack / drink due to the queue even though I want to support the club. I realise these people are probably volunteers so it is easy to suggest this stuff. I am guessing that the bar/catering provide the 2nd biggest income stream after gate money, so it can be a precious source to the club. Does anyone know if the club are investigating any way to increase serving capacity at peaks ?

the club recently extended the kitchen and made a 2nd hatch so they could serve more people at a time, but this required more volunteers of which an appeal was put out and there hasn't been any takers as far as I'm aware.

Since the rules were changed/relaxed around drinking on the terraces, is it not feasible to have a can bar set up outside? Possibly where the old club shop container unit was?
No idea on cost, or whether it would require outsourcing, just a suggestion...

Queue; you are having a laugh, let the club know when you are coming down and I am sure they will arrange for you to enter without having to queue. Re change, yes an issue, one of the reasons why the club has introduced purchasing tickets on line or from the club prior to and on match days from the office with a credit card, to try and mitigate this problem. Exacerbated by the numbers of CUFC supporters not having purchased tickets in advance. No programmes and golden goals, maybe it was because they had SOLD out! Volunteers, see Rockerlad's comments. The club are trying to address the catering issues, but it can only be done by volunteers to man the operations. So look forward to you volunteering!!

the appeal also went out on the clubs social media pages and the new mobile app. agree with comments about carlisle fans probably didn't purchase tickets in advance. a e ticket or ticket from the office in the week running up to a game should remove the need for change and speed things up at the turnstiles.

Just as an update I don't think it's a problem if I add a pointer as to where we are with this issue. Yes we have an issue dealing with demand in the bar and kitchen area, we have increased space and capacity in the kitchen but we are desperately short of volunteers in this area, yes it's a thankless task, bloody hard work and you won't see much football, please form an orderly queue to volunteer. The bar is slightly different in that space is limited and once you get more than two people serving they start getting in each others way so just adding bodies doesn't make it better. We know it needs to be better we know people are doing their best and working flat out and we are looking at ways of improving things before the league season commences but there are factors we need to consider, extra staff, the terms of our bar licence, what we do in poor weather, how much do we spend on a facility if we are looking short term potentially at BP etc etc I'm always happy to listen to folks ideas however, so please get in touch if you can offer some assistance.

A can stand would be great at the Derwent end. Even if it was just something like Marine had for us in their away end. I often have a few pints before the game but rarely at half time because of the ques. Although it may only be needed during the warmer months or higher attended games.
The volunteers do an amazing job, to do something like this for the club and miss most or all of the game is highly commendable. I can certainly see how it's a struggle to find volunteers for these roles. Would paying someone pay for itself in this kind of position?
Could sub contracting a catering van for the bigger games work well? I remember we used to have a little van selling hot drinks not so long back.
On a positive note it's a great problem to have. The club really seems to be gaining momentum and moving in the right direction. It's a tough problem to solve, especially as we are hoping to have new facilities in the near future.

Thanks for that feedback, I think a lot of the problems for food on Saturday was people not being able to get access to the counter due to congestion around the door and the size of the bar queue. I'm hoping that crowds will start at the thousand mark and with the amount of children and families now believe that a burger van or similar,on trial would support support the existing facility. Would it also be worth trying one of the local breweries to see if they would be interested in a pop up bar for early season. Thanks for everyone's efforts though the staff are much appreciated
