A poor game. Neither side showed much. Mossley looked a little more cohesive but that isn't saying a lot. I guess it looked like what it was, the first game of the season. It was a very hot day which partly accounts for the lack of real pace in the game, plus Mossley looked to waste as much time as possible (I guess we might do the same playing away? As I don't go to away games I don't know).
Neither side really looked like scoring a goal. I feel a draw would have been a fair result and it would have been until we gave them the winner at the end of the game. I don't feel anyone played badly, we just didn't play well as a unit. The defence looked okay and the two new guys (9 and 10) playing furthest forward looked okay. I felt our number 6 in midfield was having a decent game in a defensive mid role until he had to go off early after being badly fouled earlier in the game.

I was really looking forward to the first game of the season and the new style of play but I was bored to tears and extremely disappointed in how we played. As already stated there was little cohesion in the team with no support from midfield for the forwards. It did not help being able to raising much enthusiasm with 7 new players in the squad whose names I could not identify (no programmes left). Our goallie let us down at the end with being out of his sticks (common trait of his) when they scored a silly goal which should not have happened and one they did not deserve. Deffo missed the two Brads in midfield. I think we are in for a very tough season judging by yesterdays performance. By the way what injuries do Sam Smith and Matty Clarke have? It will be interesting to see how we fair on Tuesday night. COYR

COYR Clarke apparently hurt himself on holiday and has stitches in his foot was at the game alongside other injured players Smith,Hughes (back injury),McCarragher and Hebson, Scott Allison is being nursed along but will probably need an operation as well. Not a good start by any means but need the supporters to show faith and get behind the lads in the next couple of weeks

Ohh dear that goal is even worse than I thought at the time. He has to just let that bounce through to him. Such a shame as a draw was a fair result and I thought Jim looked quite sharp before that and had some excellent bits of distribution. Not very many positives at all. Toothless going forward, went long more often than usual for Danny's team and when we did try to keep it on the deck it was backwards and sideways. No urgency and no quality. I think losing Carrol early on didn't help, he's looked excellent pre season. Hughes and Clarke should also make a big difference but that was nowhere near good enough. New centre half looked great 1st half, but had a couple of hairy moments in the 2nd. I believe he's got a trial soon at a pro club but could be a good signing if he stays with us. I was Surprised Allison didn't get the nod ahead of Rigg when we needed a goal. Maybe due to the physicallity of Mossley Danny felt Rigg was the better option? With Macclesfield likely to run away with the league, I don't think we need to panick too much yet. Use this early season to get the squad right, and hopefully make the playoffs and be hitting our best form.

I thought I would fish this one up for us all to remember just how far we came last season thanks to DG. From being a team without confidence, unable to make chances we transformed into worthy - and in my mind inevitable - playoff winners and saw our fringe players sweep away Penrith 9-1 to lift the Cumberland Cup
