We could now be 6 points behind Leek had we lost at Harrison Park on Saturday. I would have been happy with a draw - and it looked that way until the Mighty Reds grabbed a late, late winner and brought yet another 3 points home. What a terrific result. Now level on points with Leek, still 9 behind Macclesfield but we are yet to host them at Borough Park and we have a game in hand. Potentially that gap could be down to three heading in to the tail end of the season. We couldn't do it could we? Could we?
I have checked this stat a few times, and I'm sure it is correct - despite how bewildering it seems. The visit of Rams to Borough Park will be our first midweek evening league fixture since 23 August when we beat Trafford 2-1. Happy to be corrected.
During the Covid curtailed seasons, Rams were amongst the promotion candidates:
20/21 season of only 8 matches Rams were in second.
19/20 season of 28 games Rams were in second.
Reds of course took their manager and finished second in 21/22. Since then Rams have been in decline (not sure why) and currently occupy last place thanks to Widnes winning on Saturday.
Reds are 3rd with 53 points from 25 games
Rams are 20th with 19 points from 25 games
Reds at home 7-3-2
Rams away 2-3-8
Recent Rams results:
4 Feb Rams 1-4 Glossop NE
31 Jan Hanley 0-0 Rams
28 Jan City of Liverpool 2-1 Rams
14 Jan Prescot 3-1 Rams
2 Jan Mossley 1-0 Rams
26 Dec Rams 3-2 Trafford
10 Dec Macclesfield 4-0 Rams
3 Dec Rams 1-2 City of Liverpool
Reds overall since 1 Dec 6-2-0
Rams overall since 1 Dec 1-1-6
Rams last win on the road was 19 Nov with a 0-2 victory at Newcastle. Reds have won 29 points of the last 33 on offer.
On paper, this is an opportunity to improve our goal difference, but at the same time could be a banana skin and we don't want to get ahead of ourselves. Tonight is a full program of fixtures.
Other top of the table fixtures today:
Macclesfield (1st) v Witton Albion
Kidsgrove v Leek (2nd)
Mossley (4th) v Trafford
Runcorn (5th) v Skem
Reds and Leek, both on 53 points have an 11 point cushion over Mossley in 4th.
Come on you Reds.
