Thanks Santa Just what I asked for. A 4-1 rout of Ilkeston giving some revenge for the earlier season flogging. That makes it eight undefeated now for Reds. 31 points on the board at this stage of the season puts us in a great position to consolidate our promotion, and hopefully avoid any suggestion of a relegation battle.
The games come thick and fast, and the Boxing Day trip to Atherton will be Reds' 6th fixture of the month, and of course the final fixture for 2023. Thanks again to all involved. The much wished for promotion followed by a successful first half of the season is a welcome tonic in what has long been hard yards of being a Reds' fan.
Atherton are 21st with 12 points from 22 games
Reds are 13th with 31 points from 23 games
Atherton at home 1-1-9
Reds away 2-4-6
Recent Atherton results:
23 Dec Rylands 1-1 Atherton
19 Dec Atherton 0-5 Marine
16 Dec Atherton 2-3 Whitby Town
9 Dec Bradford PA 1-2 Atherton
28 Nov Stafford 2-0 Atherton
25 Nov Atherton 1-2 Ashton Utd
21 Nov Macclesfield 6-0 Atheron
11 Nov Worksop 4-1 Atherton
4 Nov Atherton 2-3 Ilkeston
Atherton overall since 1 Nov 1-1-7
Reds overall since 1 Nov 3-6-1
Atherton have the worst defence in the league having conceded 55 goals. Reds have the joint 3rd worst defence (Stafford 52) with 49 conceded.
Atherton have the second worst attack in the league scoring only 21 times, one more than Stafford Rangers. Reds have the 3rd best attack (Radcliffe 56 and Worksop 50) scoring 46 goals.
Reds 23 games so far have produced 95 goals. More than any other team.
Atherton's only home victory came back in August. It was their 2nd match of the season and first at home. A 2-0 victory over Bradford PA. Atherton's only victory in their last 9 outings was doing the double at Bradford PA.
Reds are now 7 points adrift of a play off berth and 14 clear of relegation.
Given their struggles, Atherton had one of their best results on Saturday. A 79th minute equaliser earned them a draw at high flying Rylands. No doubt that will have given them some much needed festive confidence. Let's hope Reds can avoid the proverbial banana skin and exploit the league's worst home record with another victory.
Come on you Reds
