Looks shortsighted to me - why would a Soccer club benefit from likening to a Rugby League Club ? other than for ground sharing which assuming the new Community Stadium happens all will be sharing anyway.

Yes this isn't good news or a good look for the football club. It's disappointing Town have allowed this too in my opinion. What does a Rugby League club gain from this? Having junior teams, female teams etc can open funding from the FA. It also creates that community link which can see better attendance at the men's games. The question has to be asked why the women's team feel they don't want to be a part of Workington AFC?
What will happen to the junior girls teams now? I know a lot of work goes into them and they play against some of the best academies in the north(man city,Sunderland etc). Are reds to continue to develop these girls and then have nowhere for them to go? Or will Workington AFC look to start a new side?

Very disappointed in all 3 parties involved in this and should never have been allowed to get this far. Reds are obviously tied as the current pitch isnt strong enough to take the extra load a full season would need, town however seem to have seen an opportunity to increase their community involvement (ironically they have only just set up a women's team and have no youth rugby teams at any age group) The worry for me is how this will affect the trust between the clubs as we approach the prospect of the new shared stadium.

Of course the pitch could handle 2 teams. Town have taken them in and looked after them. Why should reds benefit from this? The ladies are doing what is best for the ladies and sadly that isn't being associated with Workington AFC.

Although it's very disappointing to hear about the split, after reading the reds response maybe long term maybe it is better for the club. I don't have a great knowledge of the women's team or women's game but the fact that they can just rebrand and disassociate would indicate that they never truly were part of Workington AFC but Rather a team that simply wore the kit.

No surprise at all. I've just been waiting for it to happen. You just had to read the Ladies social media to see that and all the loose mouths down at Derwent Park at a Ladies game.
Moving forward - can Town be trusted?

Got to disagree with that ,same with the reserves to keep a decent surface on that field you cant play too many games, town haven't played since September so it doesn't get the traffic, they also had a brand new pitch installed in the run up to the world cup stadium bid so it will wear better. The ladies are obviously better off running out of derwent park at the minute but long term i think naming themselves after a rugby club with no development teams or reserves at their own sport could turn out to be short sighted, should have concentrated on fighting their corner from within

The ladies are in the process of setting up a development team they advertised for players and had an open day before Christmas. How it went? I do not know.

Roy not going to games does not mean I no longer support or want what is the best for the club. If you think it's fine to lose one of our community assets then that is your prerogative.

Im sorry to keep on at this but something doesn't sit right about this whole thing, the reds statement seems very encouraging long term and appears as if things are already moving, Facebook seems to have people accusing the reds of abandoning the womens teams but again no facts,my concern is with the town involvement it appears that the rugby league funding and future restructuring involves community involvement are they using this team with an ulterior motive and will the fa support their involvement. Hopefully this will not affect relations on the new stadium as their are already far too many on both sides who would be happy to see the project abandoned

This could work out to be a very astute bit of business by the Reds board.
