Yeah i dont think anyone in here would dispute the players career, the fact he has a family or how he might be as a coach, thats missing the point. Lots of people have families to support, many reds fans who travel up and down the land and contribute to budget boosters, and turn up every week at BP have families to support.
This thread to me is defintely focused on legitimate concerns over the use of this scheme for such a potentially poor investment by the club.
To be clear also, i never would critisise people for making a poor decision which was only proven to be poor in hindsight. I do not class this as one of those as it was very obviously a punt that had a low probablility of being a success and there is no transparency as to whether this was a gamble that used up all of the money or only a fraction of it.
With the consequence that the club either wasted the opportunity given on a massive gamble, the signing didnt actually cost that much but the money was needed for something else to keep the club going (not its intended purpose but im sure would be fine with fans if explained), the signing didnt actually cost that much and there is money now freed up to sign someone else.
And that Your Honour is how rumours start (hugely false ones at that) as the person responsible for organising the BB I can assure you every penny raised is being used for the playing budget. It is seperate from club funds but ultimately has to go into the clubs account as that is where the payroll is completed from. The dealings between club, manager and each individual player are confidential and will remain that way as per any other member of the squad, why would anyone expect any different.
We understand you the fans have raised a significant amount of extra money for the budget and both the Board and the manager are eternally grateful. As someone has pointed out above Darlington fans have raised a huge amount but it doesn't guarantee it will be successful. Quite simply that's football.
Every signing is a gamble at this level, Evangelinos, Hughes and more that's just in the last few seasons.
I remember back in September when the signing was announced at a Q&A in the Hopper Bar the manager getting significant praise from the room, it may even have been a round of applause!
The big question of course and the only one that really matters is "Will it affect future Budget Boosters" I can't answer that other than to say that is down to you the supporters. What I can say is that looking around clubs in this league and the one we came out of this type of fundraiser seems to becoming the norm rather than the exception. More important than ever to even stand a chance of progress.
I am going to finish on Jamie Devitt. A respected player wherever he has been, a player who has gone through turmoil over the last few days/weeks coming to terms with the early end of his playing career. I am as disappointed as anyone that I won't see his undeniable quality in a Workington shirt but while he is an employee of our club and part of our highly valued management team I will back him 100% and i'd urge others to do the same.
