Sounds like Danny isn't dead set on a managerial career. I think he will move into the CUFC set up somewhere and hope to have a relatively pressure free role for as long as he wants to stay in the game. I do wonder if the struggles to recruit players in pre season + the number of likely outgoing players at the end of this season is a major factor in his decision

Thanks for the link for that interview, he has always been very accessible with his thoughts in all the time he’s been with us, sounds like he wants us to be right at the top of the league but deep down knows that at this time we still don’t have the finances and players to achieve his aims. Let’s face it when he first came ,5 seasons ago the new stadium and all its benefits was being pushed, we need this facility asap in order to bring in more sponsors, we can’t compete for the top game changing players at the minute and probably the comments and grumbles about his gamble with Jamie Devitt hasn’t helped either. Hope he does end up at Carlisle though now as there academy players haven’t been helped long term by their reluctance to work with local clubs in the past leaving loads of lads released at 18 nowhere near even Npl west level. Whoever comes in will have my backing fingers crossed for someone of a similar attitude and ability to improve players

Queen of the South gaffer seems to be under a bit of pressure at the moment too so Danny could end up there but not sure if they will want someone in before the end of the season

I think the timing of the announcement is all wrong. Not only kills the season, but also will hit the gates of the remaining home games. No one has any incentive. Danny has mentally gone, senior players will be more likely to hang up their boots, loanees will want to go back to their parent clubs and existing players will be looking at other options for next season. It's a recipe for a meltdown and I only hope we have enough points in the bag to comfortably secure our current status (Danny obviously thinks so). I think it would have been better to keep the announcement under wraps until the final game.

He has done the club a huge favour, gives us time to get a manager in who has contacts to sign up to 10 players, which will be needed because of next to no recruitment done for this season and players retiring.

The negativity in your post is just plain wrong. Anyway, it was common knowledge that Danny was going at the Lancaster game. He HAD to make the announcement.

Surely the players and real fans will rally behind Danny and give him a good send off, 12 points off the play-offs, if anything this is the boost the team needs!
