The excitement of a first home victory since before Christmas was quickly dampened by the news about Danny Grainger moving on. Nothing is forever in football and I am sure he has something to go to. We will all wish him well in his future endeavours and hope that our new manager can build upon Danny's good work. Of the five members of the '35 point club' last weekend, four moved on to 38, with Matlock the only member to remain thank to their defeat at Borough Park. Next up is a trip down to FCUM who are currently in a slightly perilous position.
FCUM are 17th with 33 points from 29 games Reds are 14th with 38 points from 31 games
FCUM at home 7-1-6 Reds away 2-5-8
Recent FCUM results: 24 Feb Morpeth 3-0 FCUM 6 Feb FCUM 0-1 Radcliffe 3 Feb FCUM 2-0 Gainsborough 30 Jan FCUM 0-3 Marine 27 Jan Matlock 3-0 FCUM 13 Jan Bradford PA 2-4 FCUM 6 Jan Ilkeston 2-0 FCUM 26 Dec Ashton Utd 1-2 FCUM 23 Dec FCUM 2-1 Stafford 16 Dec Worksop 4-0 FCUM 2 Dec Gainsborough 1-3 FCUM
FCUM overall since 1 Dec 5-0-6 Reds overall since 1 Dec 3-8-4
FCUM goal record is 37-57 = -20 Reds goal record is 57-63=-6
Reds are 12 points from a play off berth and 17 safe of relegation.
The reverse fixture at Borough Park was on 30 Sept: Reds 2-1 FCUM
Reds haven't won on the road since 18 Nov, 0-3 at Basford Utd. But have drawn 4 of the other 7 played since then.
Reds, along with Rylands, are the draw specialists in the league with 11 fixtures ending all square. FCUM have only drawn 4 of their games, and only one of those at home.
Reds have only won twice on the road this season. Could this be an opportunity to add another one to the tally? Let's hope so.
Come on you Reds

They are a shit plastic side formed by shit plastic fans who took a huff in 2005. They pretend that they are "united". They are not. MUFC - unfortunately - exist. Pretending you are One Faith fools no-one. Anyway, it's good to see those plastic fans descend back down the football ladder.

I knew from work a few people involved with FC United way back they started up - the "plastic" tag seems a bit harsh to me, but I get why it's used. Not in touch with anyone there now, but I gather from local talk that the costs of building the ground really added up against them. Hopefully if/when Reds get their own new place, it doesn't cause the same issues.

Might be a plastic team, certainly not a plastic pitch, more like a mud bath. Tremendous performance and result. COYR.

I don't usually get involved in these discussions, but I have to admit to complete bewilderment as to why any football fan would wish ill of another club. FCUM are a club with their own supporters, just like any club. How, or who they are, is their business - not ours. How can anybody have such a negative attitude towards the game as a whole? We all on this forum love Workington Reds - that's exactly why we are here. Just accept that other clubs have their own supporters as we do. Maybe it's an Aussie thing, but I just don't get why anyone would spend their time / life looking for negativity. There is way more to life. Glass half full or half empty? Or again........maybe only in Oz....I'll get back in my box......in the sunshine, on the beach....with my cold beer......enjoying life.......and with a positive attitude.

The pitch looked in shocking condition and the stadium looks half finished It did bring down a lot of rain the days leading up to the game - think some other games in Greater Manchester were called off. As for the stadium, can only presume they built the two stands as that would be enough until such point they needed more - which does seem unlikely at the moment. Their crowds such put them at a big advantage at this level, but my understanding is too much of the income is going on repaying the stadium debts.
