So this is it for the 23/24 season. Following the midweek CCC victory, we entertain Guiseley in our final league match.
Congratulations to the team and the club for the victory over Carlisle Utd and successful defence of the County Cup.
I am sure I speak for many supporters in thanking Danny for his work at the Reds and wishing him all the best for his next endeavour. And of course immense gratitude to Conor Tinnion and Scott Allison for their tremendous contribution to the Reds' cause over the years. Again, thank you and all the best.
Guiseley were in contention for a play off spot but have finished just a couple of wins short. Although Radcliffe have run away with the title, it has been a tight run in for the final play off berth. 2nd to 4th - Macclesfield, Marine and Rylands have all made the play offs. Not bad work for clubs who were all playing one level below in recent years.
Reds are 17th with 41 points from 39 games
Guiseley are 9th with 61 points from 39 games
Reds at home 7-6-6
Guiseley away 8-5-6
Recent Guiseley results:
23 April Guiseley 2-4 Worksop
20 April Guiseley 3-1 FCUM
6 April Guiseley 0-2 Rylands
30 March Guiseley 2-3 Lancaster
23 March Guiseley 1-2 Ilkeston
19 March Whitby 1-2 Guiseley
16 March Marine 1-0 Guiseley
9 March Guiseley 1-0 Radcliffe
5 March Atherton 1-2 Guiseley
Despite six of their last nine matches being at home, Guiseley have lost to play off contenders in Marine, Rylands and Worksop in that time which has derailed their push for the play offs. They will finish between 8th and 11th.
The reverse fixture was back on 11 November when Guiseley won a seven goal thriller 4-3.
Reds overall since 1 March 3-0-7
Guiseley overall since 1 March 4-0-5
Reds haven't won a league game since the 1-2 victory at FCUM on 2 March, and haven't won at home since defeating Matlock 2-1 in the previous game on 24 Feb. Following those back to back wins, Reds have lost the seven subsequent league fixtures.
As such, this game is a bit of a dead rubber, but I would much rather a dead rubber than having to rely on needing points to avoid relegation in our final game. Thank goodness we have had enough points on the board for a few games.
Hopefully a big crowd to enjoy the final afternoon of the season.
Until August....cheerio everybody.
Come on you Reds
