Not quite as good a start to the season as last year. No points, no goals and propping up the table. Good job one game doesn't make a season. An opening day trip to Guiseley was always going to be a tough ask. No time to dwell though. Straight on and a midweek visit from Lancaster City. There is a touch of irony in the quirk of the first home fixture being against the manager's former employers. Mark Fell spent five years at the Giant Axe until leaving in November 2023. Should make for a spicy night at Borough Park.
Reds are 24th with 0 points from 1 game Lancaster are 3rd with 3 points from 1 game
Lancaster's previous match: 10 Aug Lancaster 3-2 Basford Utd
Lancaster were losing 0-1 and 1-2, but came back to equalise twice and go on with a 90' winner to take all three points.
Lancaster came to Borough Park last season on 26 September
Stats at the time were: Reds were 12th with 12 points from 8 games Lancaster were 7th with 14 points from 8 games
Last season's final table: Reds 17th with 44 points Lancaster 9th with 62 points
Reds at home 8-6-6 Lancaster away 8-2-10
Reds are one of seven teams who opened their account with a defeat on Saturday. Hopefully that can be rectified immediately with a home victory.
Come on you Reds

Not the ideal start on Saturday but realistically we were always going to be fortunate to take anything from that game. Heard the managers views and seen the comments from the game but no time to dwell, season starts for us Tuesday. Really need a big positive crowd down backing the lads, fingers crossed the paperwork problem for Kamara and Fell will be sorted and get the victory

Should be a good game to gauge how the rest of the season might pan out. Don't think many expect a great season for Lancaster but as we know CW teams can be hard to beat. COYR!

We have one creative midfielder and he doesn’t get a look in.

Take away the offside equaliser on 97 minutes and I would say I really enjoyed tonight’s game, need to be a lot more composed when in possession but great effort out there , solid defence and the attacking threat will come as they gel together. Jordan Little and Kai Nugent standouts for me

Can't fault tonight's efforts deserved the win.
Tonight did show two things we ain't gonna score many and our bench is too weak.
Jordan little mom, lad from Preston did well also, cass was class.

Strange one for me. Thought we had some fantastic individual performances and absolutely nobody looked below par. Yet we didnt create enough and I can only remember their keeper making 1 save. Plenty of green shoots though and hopefully as they gel it will turn into goals. Wasn't sure about Kai starting at LWB but he was superb. Galloway too. Back 3 looked comfortable throughout.
Not sure I would make any changes Saturday, maybe give Hubbold a chance if anything. But we do need some attacking options from the bench.

Thought we were an excellent watch 2nd half, fast, dynamic and pressed them very well. Their goal is a sickener, but we’re better than them on that performance.
Kid from Preston excellent

A sickener at the end, but a lot of positives to take from last night.
Once we scored, there was only one team in it. Defensively we looked sound, 1-11 put a real shift in and Cass and Kamara tackled anything that moved.
It wasn't quite clicking in attack, but that's understandable given the turnover in players and change in style. Positives were that Rigg looks fitter than last year and both wing backs had good games.
I don't think we'll have to wait long for our first win if we carry this on.

I think I am in the minority here but I thought we were poor overall especially early on when a better side that Lancaster would have exploited our carelessness in possession and the spaces behind our wing backs.
The frantic and direct football that we produced in the second half may be exciting to some watchers but offered no control with the midfield generally bypassed in favour of a long ball. The manager described Lancaster as 'very direct' in his post match comments but to my eyes so were we.
That said, I do agree with others that there were excellent individual performances from Riggy, Kai and Jordan in particular but I am at a loss to understand how our best centre midfielder by a distance can spend 94 of the 95 minutes watching from the bench whilst the Preston loanee struggled for meaningful involvement yet played the entire game.
Perhaps the style of football favoured by the manager doesn't prioritise midfield quality? In which case Brad Hubbold's time at Workington may be coming to a close which to my mind would be a shame and I hope I am wrong.

As I said just after the match, our best midfielder who can actually create, doesn’t get a look in. Very sad.

you win some and you win some, thats what lancaster must be thinking. a few months ago we had 3 goals disallowed for offside at their ground,2 of them were onside.last night they score one that was offside.
