A win on the board. A clean sheet. Three points collected. That's a good midweek outing. Reports would suggest that the team played well and things may be starting to gel nicely. It see us shoot up to a mid table position of 10th and away from the strugglers. Still very early days of course, but a good feeling to have an away victory in the bank already.
Game number five of the season sees us visit Ashton Utd. The last trip was 16 December with the points shared in a 2-2 draw.
Ashton Utd are 5th with 8 points from 4 games Reds are 10th with 5 points from 4 games
Ashton at home 0-2-0 Reds away 1-0-1
Recent Ashton Utd results: 20 Aug Ashton 0-0 Bamber Bridge 17 Aug Gainsborough 0-1 Ashton 13 Aug Rylands 3-4 Ashton 10 Aug Ashton 2-2 Blyth
Ashton overall 2-2-0 Reds overall 1-2-1
Ashton Utd have started much better away from home with 2 wins from 2 games. Both games at home have resulted in draws. Opening day v Blyth they were 2-1 up but conceded in 86th minute.
Given that four of the eight games played in total from both teams have been drawn so far, the same outcome would seem a distinct possibility.
Come on you Reds

After the euphoria of last night’s victory we have another tricky test at Ashton. The team now is taking shape , we have a fit ,dynamic team with a lot of younger players who seem determined to progress up the leagues. Won’t be easy but quietly confident

Very disappointing result as I thought after the win at Prescott we would have managed a draw today. But I was wong. Were we bad today or were Ashton very good?

Reds started well, Allen hitting underside of bar, Nugent going close. Kamara clean through just before half time but got the ball stuck under his feet. Ashton went up the other end and scored. Reds poor in the second half, never looked like getting anything. Not sure if Hubbold was injured, a strange substitution if he wasn’t. Kamara had a few good moments and Nugent looked good when the ball was on the ground. None of the back 3 looked confident on the ball, we could do with at least one who can play out from the back. Ashton looked much better at playing out from the back and were able to exploit the space behind our wing backs.

Think Mark Fell is understanding the difficulties of managing at Workington. In particular attracting experienced players with the need for them to travel.
It is easy to forget that this is a team which has undergone a total rebuild in the summer and it will take time for it to bed in.
Yes today was a step backwards in terms of the result after the Prescot game but lets show patience and back the players through a difficult time. They need encouragement to take their chances.

Always going to be difficult with 4 missing and having a paper thin squad.
All lads missing have experience and we had a lot of inexperienced youth playing who by all accounts played well first half.
Ashton will b up there at the end of the season imo along with hyde, macclesfield, worksop,Guiseley.
If we get anything from them games it is a bonus, I think reds should really compete with everyone else and improve on last season but we are 4 players and maybe another season away from challenging the top 5.
Mark fell said a player has been offered to him through an agent so hopefully he us useful and can improve team.
Looking fwd to tomorrow's game, little is still out but hopefully the other 3 return COYR.

Mark Fell was absolutely scathing about this performance when interviewed on Radio,Cumbria I'm not surprised after that 2nd half non performance. I didn't see that coming after the Prescot game and a bright 1st half where we should have been ahead. I'll leave it there as apparently I'm too negative on this forum according to a well known Reds fan who doesn't come on here but reads the posts. I always thought I was fair but hey ho.

Hopefully the kick up the arse the lads need before 2 big games against Hebburn. Especially with the lower crowds so far a little cup run would be a big help.
Our very thin squad has played 2 games a week since the start of the season with very little rotation possible so perhaps this was coming. But it doesn't get much easier with games coming thick and fast for the next 4 weeks! Hopefully we can get some bodies in soon to ease the workload.
