Been a while between drinks as they say. Spartans have been playing higher up the pyramid until this season having been in the National League North since 2016. Last season they finished 4th from bottom, and as such were relegated to the NPL Premier. They kicked off on the final day of the 23/24 season 5th from bottom, level on points with Farsley Celtic who were one place below in the final relegation position. Spartans 1-5 Brackley, and Farsley 2-0 Buxton meant that by the full time whistles, the two teams exchanged places, and Spartans were relegated.
23/24 season National League North Spartans finished 21st with 50 points from 46 matches Home record 7-6-10
So after a run of three games at home, Reds find themselves on the road again for the first time since 24 August. Blyth parted ways with manager Nobby Solano on 27 August just after the home defeat to Morpeth.
Blyth are 21st with 3 points from 7 games Reds are 12th with 9 points from 7 games
Blyth at home 0-1-2 Reds away 1-0-2
Recent Blyth results: 7 Sept Prescot 1-0 Blyth 4 Sept Blyth 3-1 Campion AFC (AET) (FAC1QRr) 31 Aug Campion AFC 1-1 Blyth (FAC1QR) 26 Aug Blyth 1-4 Morpeth 24 Aug Worksop 5-2 Blyth 20 Aug Guiseley 0-0 Blyth 17 Aug Blyth 1-1 Lancaster 13 Aug Blyth 0-1 Hebburn Town 10 Aug Ashton Utd 2-2 Blyth
Blyth have lost their last three league games and have only registered 1 point from their home fixtures so far. Reds have so far collected one victory on the road, the 0-2 victory at Prescot on 20 August. Blyth will have one eye on their FAC2QR fixture to be played on Saturday 14 September. A home tie v Bury FC.
So if Reds were to target potential opportunities for away points, this trip against a relegated club who have made a poor start to the season, yet to win at home, recently lost their manager and next up have a FAC match, this would surely be on the list.
Come on you Reds

3 points would be great here, especially against a struggling Blyth side. Hopefully a game we should be winning!

Terrible result that ,we are starting to get sucked down the league, don’t look like scoring many goals but can’t keep a clean sheet. Maybe the manager needs a rethink on his formation

Seven goals in 8 games is relegation form. Changes needed, one hoped the Budget Booster would enable the club to bring in a proven goalscorer. You cant rely on inexperienced loan players every game

Absolutely mental that people are calling for his head already
Hes probably had one of the toughest introductions as a Reds manager in years, having to essentially build a team from scratch, everyone with any sense knew this season was going to be difficult
Cant deny that we’ve been poor, but really dont know what people were expecting given the situation, and given the other candidates that were in for the job it’s laughable that people seem to think there are genuinely better options
It’s only September, no need for everyone to lose their shit just yet!
We were very poor tonight but the first half we dominated spells and was just fine moments there that didnt go our way. We didnt turn up second half and Blyth were there for the taking, but everyone is massively over reacting, it’s not like we were world beaters last season, we won 5 league games in 5 months November-April, passed it round in circles and rolled over for teams every time a cross came into our box, people seem to have very short memories

We have to be realistic in our expectations given how big of a task Mark Fell has had to undertake. Remember he inherited a side that was in very poor form and then lost some of its most important and experienced players. That said the results and performances so far haven't been what we had hoped for but he deserves a fair amount of time to get things right. Most games have had small spells of encouraging phases but we haven't really managed that over the full 90 minutes. Many Reds fans seem to think we should be challenging for titles every season but I think if we are honest this is our level and we need to grow a lot as a club to enable us to push for NLN football.

The majority of the fans have realistic expectations but Mark Fell came in giving it the big I am and promising football to get us off out of our seats whilst aiming thinly veiled digs at the previous regimes playing style. That hasn’t happened and that’s where a lot of the frustration is coming from.
Yes he had to rebuild but he still had a core of good players and has added some quality to it. It’s telling that none of the Lancaster players have followed him. The system he plays isn’t getting the best out of the players. He had the quality to play an attacking 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 but persists with 3-5-2 and in the process appears to be turning players and fans off alike
People criticised Danny for being stubborn when he wouldn’t change his style but I can’t see Mark Fell changing his either and it’s far less pleasing on the eye. Right from the first game again Whitehaven I was unimpressed with his system and I’ve seen nothing to change my mind. It’s not exciting to watch, it’s been awful.

Yes people need to temper their expectations but IMO a Manager also needs to mould a team around the strengths of his players he has available not have a rigid system at any cost. Nobody is blaming the players for lack of effort but a higher level of consistency throughout the 90 minutes is essential as is a proven goalscorer to take the pressure off the team.
