The facts show Reds have won two on the bounce. And scored 8 times. Not too bad of a way to begin the FA Trophy campaign. The draw looked after us with a home fixture, just as it did in the FA Cup. Sadly we didn’t make any advantage of that one of course.
I am led to believe this is the fourth consecutive season that we have opened the FAT campaign with a home fixture. Sadly, the previous three attempts were all defeats. Perhaps it is time for a change of fortune?
Morpeth Town come to Borough Park as our first opponents in this season’s offering. The two teams have very similar records so far in the league.
League position: Reds 14 Morpeth 15
League points: Reds 12 Morpeth 12
Goals scored: Reds 12 Morpeth 13
Goals conceded: Reds 15 Morpeth 18
Overall league record: Reds 3-3-5 Morpeth 3-3-4
With both teams already out of the FAC, Morpeth had a free weekend on Saturday whilst Reds were enjoying the run out at Mirehouse.
Reds are 14th with 12 points from 11 games
Morpeth are 15th with 12 points from 10 games
Reds at home in the league 2-3-1
Morpeth away in the league 1-2-2
Recent Morpeth results:
21 Sept Morpeth 2-2 Hyde Utd
17 Sept Guiseley 3-3 Morpeth
14 Sept Spennymoor 3-1 Morpeth (FAC2QR)
10 Sept Morpeth 0-0 Hebburn
7 Sept Ashton Utd 0-1 Morpeth
31 Aug Morpeth 1-0 Emley (FAC1QR)
26 Aug Blyth 1-4 Morpeth
24 Aug Morpeth 0-3 Rylands
20 Aug Morpeth 2-1 Stockton
17 Aug Basford 4-0 Morpeth
13 Aug Gainsborough 3-1 Morpeth
10 Aug Morpeth 0-1 FCUM
Reds overall this season 4-3-6
Morpeth overall this season 4-3-5
Aside from the FAC defeat at Spennymoor, Morpeth are undefeated in 6 of their previous 7 outings. Since their opening three losses on the bounce, they are undefeated in the league and as such, likely provide some stern opposition.
I believe there will be no extra time, but with no replays, if level after 90 minutes, the match will go to penalties.
$625 for the losers. $2450 for the winners and a place in FAT4QR.
Come on you Reds
(Apologies for the $ symbol. Can’t find a pound sign on my iPad and internet on Crown Princess between Los Angeles and Honolulu is not great.)
