G'day Everybody,
It's been an incredibly long time between drinks. My last match preview was for our game at Tadcaster on 14 March. For the record, we won 2-4. Since then, we have all been living in a different world. I still can't believe we were not promoted on a PPG system. I saw the best option as promoting clubs in all divisions on PPG, but no relegations happening. Any subsequent league anomalies could have been righted the next season. Unfortunately, the powers that be saw differently. The positives are though that our Manager is still with us, we seem to have many players still with us, and reason for optimism again, that we had throughout last season. And so to our first competitive fixture of the 20/21 season.
We found ourselves with an away draw to Glasshoughton Welfare FC or Knaresborough Town. Their match in the Extra Preliminary Round on 2 Sept ended 1-1. Knaresborough won the subsequent penalty shootout 2-4.
Knaresborough play their league football one step below Reds in the North Counties East League Premier Division (Step five) along with Bridlington Town, Garforth Town and Goole AFC. When their season was suspended, they were 13th of 20 with 32 points from 25 games.
Knaresborough at home in the 19/20 season 5-3-6
Glasshoughton Welfare play in the North Counties East League Division One (Step six). They finished the 19/20 season in 7th with 43 points from 26 games and a home record of 10-1-3
Knaresborough friendlies this season 2-2-2
Reds friendlies this season 5-0-2
Winners receive £1444 and place in FAC1QR, losers £481. There will be no FAC replays this season, meaning that a result will be determined by penalties after 90 minutes. I don't believe there will be Extra Time.
Who knows what season 20/21 has in store, but here's hoping we can get it off to a winning start - somewhat unusually - in the FAC.
Come on you Reds.
