Reds lost today's friendly 0-2 at Shielfield Park. We played well in the first half but Reuben Jerome's 44th minute penalty miss meant we turned round goalless. Within a minute of the restart Jim Atkinson had conceded then saved a Berwick penalty, but he had no chance with a thunderous 25 yard free kick which gave The Borderers the lead. A raft of substitutions then disrupted the flow of the game and we never really looked like levelling, though a jinking run from Jerome saw him beat 3 or 4 defenders before seeing his low shot saved. Berwick added a 2nd not long before the end following defensive hesitancy.
Plus points for an obviously still rusty Reds were good performances from Brad Carroll, Matty Clarke & Steven Rigg - a fully fit Rigg is going to be a big asset this season. We were missing regulars Smith, Allison, Casson, Tinnion & Symington with the starting line up being; Atkinson, Clarke, Charlton, Wordsworth, Skinner, Hubbold, Gooden, Carroll, Jerome, Rigg, Lightfoot.
