Reds have had an enforced 21 day break between given the postponements at Bootle and then Ramsbottom. I seem to say this every year, but it baffles me why the league do not schedule more midweek matches in the first half of the season. Inevitably, matches get postponed - often due to the weather - and teams end up having to cram in fixtures in an end of season pile up. It seems we also a have yet another blank Saturday on 5 March?
Anyway, soapbox aside, we can hopefully play a game of football and collect another valuable three points by beating visitors Widnes.
Reds are 1st with 65 points from 27 games
Widnes are 11th with 32 points from 27 games
Reds at home 10-3-1
Widnes away 4-1-8
Recent Widnes results:
19 Feb Widnes 2-1 Prescot
15 Feb City of Liverpool 1-0 Widnes
8 Feb Widnes 1-0 Rams
29 Jan Widnes 2-1 Clitheroe
24 Jan Market Drayton 0-5 Widnes
22 Jan Leek 2-1 Widnes
15 Jan Widnes 1-0 Trafford
8 Jan Newcastle Town 3-4 Widnes
1 Jan Widnes 0-1 Rylands
Reds overall since 1 Jan 7-0-1
Widnes overall since 1 Jan 6-0-3
Although Widnes are mid table, their recent form shows 4 wins from 5. Having said that, their 0-5 in amongst that was at Market Drayton who have conceded 72 times this season.
Reds have been chasing a 10th consecutive win in the league three times now. Here's hoping it comes good today. Reds need to win to make sure of retaining top spot.
Other significant fixtures today:
Kidsgrove v Marine (2nd)
Rylands (3rd) v Trafford
Prescot v Leek (4th)
Current top of the league using played and points
Reds 27 65
Marine 28 64
Rylands 29 62
Leek 27 56
Rylands and Leek both have fixtures on 5 March before Reds play again on 8 March at Bootle.
Come on you Reds.
