It was back in April 2018 that South Shields won our league - known then as NPL Division 1 North. They spent only two seasons in this league after gaining promotion from Northern Division 2 in April 2016. After finishing second in NPL Premier Division in 18/19 but losing in the play offs, they were sitting 1st after 33 games in 19/20 season when the dreaded Covid put paid to their likely promotion. 20/21 was ended after only 9 games, but they finished 2nd again in 21/22 only to lose in the play offs again.
So into their 5th campaign in NPL Premier, they will be hoping to gain promotion in April.
South Shields are 3rd with 12 points from 6 games (NPL Premier) Reds are 17th with 4 points from 5 games
South Shields at home in the league 2-1-0 Reds away in the league 0-1-1
Recent South Shields results: 29 Aug South Shields 1-0 Morpeth 27 Aug Nantwich 0-1 South Shields 23 Aug South Shields 1-1 Gainsborough 20 Aug Marine 2-2 South Shields 16 Aug Ashton Utd 1-1 South Shields 13 Aug South Shields 2-0 Stalybridge
South Shields overall this season 3-3-0 Reds overall this season 2-1-3
Undefeated this season, they begin their FAC campaign in this round.
On offer today is £2250 and a place in the hat for FAC2QR for the winners. £750 for the losers.
After our 0-7 victory in the Preliminary Round, this will be a tough trip for Reds. South Shields will be clear favourites, helped not least by Reds poor form. Looking here for one of those shock results that happen in the FAC. Come on you Reds.

just watched their 3 goals , a suicide ball played in our goal area is intercepted and they score, a big punt upfield and we would still be in the cup.

Brilliant performance from the Reds today. A neutral watching would have struggled to identity the full-time team. When ‘underdogs’ usually perform well against higher opposition it is by running themselves into the ground and taking whatever chances Come your way. It wasn’t like that today, we matched then completely for football, and some of our passing moves were worthy of a league team. It took a dark arts act to equalise and understandably wind our team up. Massively proud of them and optimistic for the rest of the season now. 1 - 11 were superb, as were the subs that came on.

From the video it looked a much better performance from reds. Looked very even and you certainly couldn't tell which side was full time. IMO reds probably shaded it. Nice to see Reilly get a goal, hopefully do him the world of good and get him back in his pre season form where he looked a constant threat. We could have had more goals too but just not quite working the goalkeepers enough at times. All that said we really have to learn (quickly) when to play out from the back, and when it's not on. We got away with one here, but then paid the ultimate price for another in the 92nd minute. Happened multiple times pre season too All part of the transition I suppose, and despite the result I'd still rather watch a game like todays, over the back end of last season.
Side note; I noticed the video didn't show the build up to the throw in on their 2nd goal. Guilty conscience?
