Perhaps our season got back on track at South Shields despite the loss. Reports suggest we played well there, and the midweek victory at Ramsbottom would suggest the same. Now that we have our league ambitions back on track, we move onto the FAT and host high flying Runcorn Linnets. Linnets also had their FAC campaign curtailed in 1QR at Marske.
Reds are 12th with 7 points from 6 games Runcorn are 3rd with 10 points from 6 games
Reds at home in the league 1-0-2 Runcorn away in the league 1-0-2
Recent Runcorn results: 6 Sept Skem 1-4 Runcorn 3 Sept Marske 2-1 Runcorn (FAC1QR) 29 Aug Runcorn 1-0 Witton Albion 27 Aug Prescot 1-0 Runcorn 23 Aug Runcorn 0-0 Hanley 20 Aug Trafford 1-2 Runcorn (FACPR) 16 Aug Mossley 1-0 Runcorn 13 Aug Runcorn 3-1 Widnes
Reds overall this season 3-1-4 Runcorn overall this season 4-1-3
Although they sit 3rd, Runcorn's form has been pretty inconsistent. They are yet to win 2 games on the bounce.
The winners receive £1500 and place in the hat for 2QR, losers receive £400.
I think a draw at 90 minutes goes to a replay but happy for somebody to confirm otherwise.
Last season Runcorn finished 4th, won 1-4 at Leek in the play off semi but succumbed to Marine 1-2 in the final. Both our league fixtures were won by the away team. 29 Jan Runcorn 1-2 Reds 23 Oct Reds 2-4 Runcorn
Would be good to stay in the Trophy for a while so hoping our recently improved performances can continue. Come on you Reds.

Strange game, starting to play a lot better in possession than we were earlier in the season, at least in spells of games.. could have had a couple first half and should have had the most blatant penalty awarded albeit at 0-0, not sure the officials logic for not giving it? Lost all rhythm once Runcorn scored the equaliser and looked liked old habits from earlier in the season kicked in.
I do think we are slowly getting to where we want to be.
Big game on Saturday now, we have a tricky next five games.

To many cock ups with keeper and defenders . new players D/G brought in this season are not up to the mark. no midfield we lost it when Jerome came off

I do like that we are trying to play proper football but we have to learn when it's on and when it isn't. At one point in the 1st half a goalkick to us looked more of a danger to our goal than a corner to Runcorn! I prefer the tika taka style to hoofball but so far this season I've had my heart in my mouth constantly, and it's cost us goals and games
I feel we have a few too many players who I would class as decent squad players and not genuine competition for starting places. Hopefully our new Assistant Manager can help us add a bit more quality
Any news on Hughes' injury? Him and reilly looked good together pre season.
At least we shouldn't need to worry about a backlog of fixtures towards the end of the season 🤦

Well that is Both Opportunities for much needed cash streams gone and we are only in mid September. Concentrate on the league now but without some quality signings can honestly not see us making the playoffs.

I've just listened to Danny's interview that's on the clubs app. It's a little worrying to me how he isn't fazed by some of the suicide passes out from the back. He seems happy to give away dangerous (often 1v1) chances in exchange for creating more space on the occasions we do get out. We got away with 3 or 4 last night. I bet their manager was fuming at HT that they hadn't scored . I've said a few times I like that we are trying to play good football again but sometimes it just isn't on and going long is the only option. We have 2 forwards capable of holding it up in Reilly and Jerome too. Although going long shouldn't be out first thought (like it was last season) it's surely better than going short to someone who is marked and too often losing the ball in an horrendous area?

Personally, I am indifferent to the style of football played. Just win, it's the ONLY thing that matters. Currently the manager is setting us up to play in a particular way. A way that, previously, was successful until the season ended prematurely - twice! The problem he has now is the current crop of players are simply not good enough, or maybe are not embedded in the system. All we have to hope for now is scraping into the playoffs. We can do that but we will have to fight for it until next April.

Most of The games weren't entertaing, I felt we were often lucky to win, although always looked difficult to beat. I think the league is a lot stronger now than it was under Danny's previous reign, so you may be right that we need some extra quality. It's a little too early to talk of "scraping" in the playoffs. You don't have to be fantastic to get into the playoffs but you most likely will need to be in form to win them. We've had a disastrous start and are still only 2 points outside. Unbelievably We are 3 points behind 2nd with a game in hand!

The football last year was terrible to watch, Tuesday we played some fantastic stuff in small patches but seem to keep putting ourselves under pressure with some suicidal passing, still a long way to go and think with the new assistant in place we will improve as time goes on unlike last year when we steadily got worse. Hopefully we can get the Skelmersdale home game rearranged for next Saturday now
