I'm not sure who our nearest neighbour is in the league at the moment. It is definitely not Kidsgrove though. They could have had a number of local derbies for their Boxing Day fixture so are likely not best pleased to be making their longest trip of the season. Hopefully they had a good Christmas, but we would prefer to spoil their Boxing Day.
Reds are now undefeated in 9...... OK, the last three fixtures were postponed, but we didn't lose any of them. Both Reds and Kidsgrove will have gone 23 days without a match due to these multi postponements. Our last outing was the 0.-1 at Newcastle on 3 Dec. I say this every year, but still fail to understand why midweek fixtures cease so early in the season, knowing full well that fixtures at this time of year are likely to succumb to the weather.
We head into our last fixture of 2022 on a decent run, in the play offs and generally going well. After our poor start to the season, the tyres thankfully got changed, and we started to pick up. Whilst title favourites Macclesfield do occupy top spot, they have shown themselves not to be unbeatable. In fact they have lost as many times as we have, and more than Leek and Colne. Perhaps the title isn't unassailable after all?
Reds are 4th with 36 points from 18 games
Kidsgrove are 6th with 30 points from 18 games
Reds at home 5-2-2
Kidsgrove away 4-3-3
Recent Kidsgrove results:
3 Dec Skem 1-2 Kidsgrove
26 Nov Widnes 1-2 Kidsgrove
19 Nov Kidsgrove 2-1 Clitheroe
12 Nov Runcorn 2-0 Kidsgrove
5 Nov Kidsgrove 2-0 Prescot
29 Oct Rams 2-3 Kidsgrove
25 Oct Kidsgrove 1-2 Hanley
22 Oct Kidsgrove 2-1 Bootle
15 Oct City of Liverpool 2-1 Kidsgrove
8 Oct Kidsgrove 2-2 Mossley
1 Oct Kidsgrove 1-1 Witton
Reds overall since 1 Oct 8-1-2
Kidsgrove overall since Oct 5-2-4
Along with Reds, Kidsgrove have also plenty of 2-1 results. Having gone five matches without a win in October, they have turned that around and won five of their next six. As such, this points to a close encounter against a team currently out of a play off position by goal difference only.
Other top of the table fixtures today:
Newcastle Town v Leek (2nd)
Runcorn (3rd) v City of Liverpool
Colne v Clitheroe (5th)
Glossop NE v Mossley (6th)
9 points separate 2nd to 7th.
Here's hoping this match goes ahead....with a good festive crowd. Come on you Reds.
