Is the New Year champagne flute half full or half empty? Two matches played in 2023, two draws. Undefeated, but points dropped. The 95th minute equaliser by Prescot last weekend would have hurt in particular. But Reds are now 9 without defeat. 11 points adrift of leaders Macclesfield. But we have a game in hand, and still have to host Macclesfield at Borough Park. That could potentially shrink the gap to 5 points...if you're in the half full glass.
Regardless, the fixtures continue and next up is a trip to Trafford.
Trafford are 13th with 24 points from 22 games
Reds are 3rd with 41 points from 21 games
Trafford at home 3-4-4
Reds away 6-2-2
Recent Trafford results:
7 Jan Colne 2-2 Trafford
2 Jan Trafford 2-2 Glossop NE
26 Dec Rams 3-2 Trafford
6 Dec Runcorn 2-1 Trafford
3 Dec Trafford 1-2 Prescot Cables
26 Nov Trafford 2-2 Newcastle Town
22 Nov Radcliffe 5-2 Trafford (Manchester PC QF)
12 Nov Trafford 0-1 Macclesfield
5 Nov Hanley 1-2 Trafford
1 Nov Trafford 0-2 Leek Town
29 Oct Trafford 2-1 Witton Albion
Trafford overall since 1 Nov 0-3-7
Reds overall since 1 Nov 7-2-1
Trafford are winless in ten outings since their victory over Witton Albion back in October. Their home record since 1 Nov is 0-3-3. Their home record prior to 31 Oct was a much more impressive 3-1-1 but they have have been struggling ever since. Reds have the 3rd best away record in the league in terms of points collected (20) behind Leek (21) and Macclesfield (22).
The play off contenders are jostling for positions with Mossley now 7 points clear of 6th placed Clitheroe and 7th placed Kidsgrove.
Other top of the table fixtures today:
Kidsgrove v Macclesfield (1st-52pts)
Leek (2nd-44pts) v Glossop NE
Hanley v Runcorn (4th-38pts)
Mossley (5th-38pts) v Colne
Macclesfield have a tricky trip with Kidsgrove only losing once at home this season. On paper, the others should all win.
Reds need to rediscover the winning habit - here's hoping it starts again at Trafford.
Come on you Reds.
