What is it about us playing bottom of the league teams? Not quite as devastating as the final fixture of last season maybe, but still......disappointing. On paper it looked like the game v Rams could have seen us improve our goal difference. Two penalties should have been enough to take the three points but unfortunately the fabulous victory at Leek could not be backed up. I guess the positive is that most of us would probably have settled for a draw at Leek, and a win v Rams. Both resulted in the same points gain overall. Leek scored a winner in the last 5 minutes, and Macclesfield only drew at home. And so on to the next fixture v Bootle.
Reds are 3rd with 54 points from 26 games
Bootle are 12th with 31 points from 25 games
Reds at home 7-4-2
Bootle away 3-5-4
Recent Bootle results:
7 Feb Clitheroe 4-0 Bootle
4 Feb Bootle 1-2 Macclesfield
28 Jan 1874 Northwich 1-1 Bootle
7 Jan Bootle 2-2 Widnes
2 Jan City of Liverpool 1-1 Bootle
26 Dec Bootle 3-1 Prescot
17 Dec Leek 3-2 Bootle
3 Dec Bootle 2-0 1874 Northwich
Reds overall since 1 Dec 6-3-0
Bootle overall since 1 Dec 2-3-3
Bootle are yet to win in 2023. Reds are undefeated in 14 games as we head into the final third of the season. Reds trail Macclesfield by 9 points and this is effectively our game in hand with Macc without a fixture. We visit Runcorn next and then host Macclesfield at the end of the month.
Other top of the table fixtures today:
Macclesfield (1st) no fixture
Prescot v Leek (2nd)
Mossley (4th) v Witton Albion
Runcorn (5th) v Newcastle
Let's hope we can make up for the Rams disappointment, and get the goals flowing again.
Come on you Reds.
