Please forgive the early postings for next few fixtures, but heading off on a cruise tomorrow and will have limited access to wifi for a couple of weeks. So doing some prep on upcoming matches. Will endeavour to update closer to KO's.
Reds host league leaders Macclesfield in front of a potentially bumper crowd at Borough Park. Macclesfield Town (the former club) were regular visitors in the 80's before they began their climb through the leagues into Division 2. If I remember correctly, they were sponsored back then by K Shoes? Unfortunately, things turned turned sour and the club was wound up in October 2020. They reformed - with help from Robbie Savage, won promotion last season, and are looking to make it consecutive promotions.
After the two recent Borough Park disappointments v Rams and Bootle, the 1-3 win at Runcorn was very timely. Is there anything in it that Reds seem to do better against the higher teams than the lower teams? If so, then maybe we can do a job on Macclesfield and reduce the deficit which is currently 9 points.
Macclesfield are 1st with 66 points from 28 games Reds are 3rd with 57 points from 28 games
Reds at home 7-4-3 Macclesfield away 9-2-2
Macclesfield recent results: 18 Feb Macclesfield 2-0 Glossop NE 7 Feb Macclesfield 1-1 Witton Albion 4 Feb Bootle 1-2 Macclesfield 28 Jan Macclesfield 4-2 Colne 24 Jan Clitheroe 1-1 Macclesfield 14 Jan Kidsgrove 0-3 Macclesfield 7 Jan Macclesfield 4-0 Leek Town 2 Jan Widnes 0-4 Macclesfield
Reds overall since 1 Jan 8-2-1 Macclesfield overall since 1 Jan 6-2-0
Other top of the table fixtures today: Leek (2nd) v Trafford City of Liverpool v Clitheroe (4th) 1874 Northwich v Runcorn (5th) Mossley (6th) v Kidsgrove
Macclesfield's last defeat was at Runcorn Linnets on 22 November. Although they have a 6 point lead at the top of the league, they have lost four matches this season, and Leek Town trail by 6 points in 2nd place.
This has the makings of a great game. Here's hoping a large crowd turns up and get to see the mighty Reds defeat high flying Macclesfield.
Come on you Reds

Really shows how desperately a new ground is needed with the amount of work needed to produce a segregated area and facilities for away fans for this game,I think Macclesfield will bring around 200 and hopefully over a thousand reds fans will show up and create a good atmosphere

How many tickets have Macclesfield been allocated. I would say they have been taking nearer to 500 spectators to away matches.

What a disappointment, team selection and tactics was wrong from the start. We were never going to outplay Macclesfield and should have varied our game and played more direct at times. Their defence was untroubled for most of the game with their keeper hardly having to make a save. By the time changes were made up front it was to late. On the plus side the No. 15 up came on looked a very useful player, I haven't attended many games this season and didn't recognise him.

If you'd actually bothered to turn up to the game - instead of being a keyboard warrior from a distance - then you would have seen the game in reality.

1-1 probably would've been a fair result.
Actually, 0-0 probably would've been fairer - closely fought, with us probably just shading it, but neither side creating much (their goal came from our mistake).
The odds were already stacked against us playing a full time side (I see Danny Simpson was training with them this week!), but it was one of those afternoons where every little break and deflection fell their way, the ref missed a blatant foul on Reuben, gave a harsh red card, missed a load of punches and headbutts in the fracas towards the end (their no2 was particularly sly with a few kidney punches). He only got the second red card right with help from his linesman!
We look like a good playoff side and for once, weren't overawed by the occasion. Hopefully a lot of the floating fans will be back next week!

A draw would have been a fair result but Reds paid the penalty for trying to play the ball out of their own area and gave away what can only be described as a soft goal in a hard fought and largely even match.
I have to question, though, how Macclesfield finished the game with 11 men still on the field. The ref can't be blamed for the result but he made some very poor decisions, missed stuff that was going on under his nose and ironically (and perhaps inevitably) it was Reds who finished with a man short.
I also felt the Macclesfield players were guilty of some unseemly and unnecessary behaviour when, at the end if the game, they went over to goad that section of Reds fans who, admittedly, had been giving them a bit of stick. It was provocative in the extreme and not befitting a team who now look certain to win promotion at a canter.

Its games like this that makes you realise how much the club means to us and how much it has to offer to the town, a great effort by the club to organise the day and I really think that the community aspect is beginning to pay off. Let's hope the last few home games see us hitting the thousand mark again. On the day we just didnt have that bit extra to create chances against admittedly one of the strongest squad of players assembled at this level, thought young kai nugent was excellent again but all gave their all which is all you can ask for

Understand fully the comments re the refereeing, in particular how he judged Sam Smiths challenge as a Red Card.

Enlighten us how you would play against an all but full time team please? We were always in the game just lacked killer instinct, wasn't a bad performance at all. Two good teams fighting it out. We move on to Hanley, 4 wins from remaining games all but guarantees us play offs.. think we are due play off success this time.
