Another poor result against another lowly team. I suppose the positive is that we will not be playing any lowly teams in the play offs. Congrats to Macclesfield who have already won the title with 4 games to go. Hopefully we will be playing them again next season....but far from guaranteed at the moment.
Witton have crept up to 6th place, and as things stand, they are the only team outside the top five who can deny us a play off berth. But they would need to win at Borough Park, and win all their remaining games to do so.
Reds are 3rd with 66 points from 34 games
Witton are 6th with 54 points from 34 games
Reds at home 9-4-4
Witton away 5-7-5
Recent Witton results:
1 April Witton 5-3 Skem
25 March Leek Town 0-1 Witton
18 March Witton 0-1 Trafford
11 March Witton 1-0 Prescot
4 March Rams 0-3 Witton
28 Feb Bootle 2-2 Witton
25 Feb Witton 1-0 Colne
21 Feb Witton 3-1 Newcastle Town
18 Feb Witton 1-2 Widnes
11 Feb Mossley 1-1 Witton
7 Feb Macclesfield 1-1 Witton
4 Feb Witton 3-2 Kidsgrove
Reds overall since 1 Feb 7-1-4
Witton overall since 1 Feb 7-3-2
Witton have actually picked up more points than Reds over the last 12 games each. Only four of those 12 games have been away though, with a return of 1-3-0. Witton were last defeated on the road at Clitheroe on 28 Jan.
Reds are battling Leek for second place. Remaining fixtures are:
Reds - Witton(h) Kidsgrove(a) Northwich(a) Colne(h)
Leek - Rams(a) Newcastle(h) Colne(a) Skem(h)
Avoid defeat v Witton, and a play off position is guaranteed. Reds trail Leek by 1 point and a GD of -7. On paper Reds' run in is tougher then Leek's, but two more points will at least guarantee a 3rd place finish.
Other top of the table fixtures:
Macclesfield (1st) v City of Liverpool
Rams v Leek (2nd)
1874 Northwich v Clitheroe (4th)
Runcorn (5th) v Prescot
After the Covid years of disappointment, promotion would be very welcome this year, but we have a few matches to navigate to make that happen.
Come on you Reds.
