Well here we are again. The regular season is complete and we find ourselves in the play offs looking for promotion. We secured 3rd position in the league ensuring a home semi final and take on 4th placed Clitheroe for a place in the final.
Reds finished 3rd with 75 points from 38 games Clitheroe finished 4th with 64 points from 38 games
Reds at home 11-4-4 Clitheroe away 8-4-7
Recent Clitheroe results: 22 April Clitheroe 1-3 Kidsgrove 15 April Glossop NE 1-2 Clitheroe 10 April Clitheroe 4-1 Colne 8 April 1874 Northwich 1-2 Clitheroe 1 April Clitheroe 1-0 Leek 25 March Runcorn 1-2 Clitheroe 18 March Clitheroe 2-2 Prescot 11 March Trafford 2-1 Clitheroe 4 March Newcastle Town 1-0 Clitheroe
Reds overall since 1 March 7-0-3 Clitheroe overall since 1 March 5-1-3
League fixtures between the two sides this season 2 Jan Clitheroe 1-1 Reds 29 Aug Reds 0-1 Clitheroe
Clitheroe just missed out on the play offs last season finishing 6th, three points adrift of Marine.
Since their wobble in early March, Clitheroe had gone six unbeaten until their defeat to Kidsgrove on Saturday. Not sure if they rested some players?
The winner will proceed to the play off final and will either travel to Leek, or host Runcorn.
League fixtures between the two sides this season 28 Jan Runcorn 0-1 Leek 3 Dec Leek 0-2 Runcorn
Reds are very familiar with play offs, particularly in recent years:
21/22 season - Semi Final Reds 2-3 Marine Conceded in 90th and 93rd minutes. NPLW finished 2nd to Rylands by 1 point.
16/17 season - Semi Final Stourbridge 3-2 Reds Lost to a 97th minute goal after equalising in 90th. NPL Premier finished 4th.
15/16 season - Final Salford 3-2 Reds Winning 1-2 at half time NPL Premier finished 5th.
14/15 season - Semi Final Reds 0-1 Ilkeston Town 56th minute goal. NPL Premier finished 2nd to FCUM by 2 points.
Hopefully this is our year. Come on you Reds.

Bloody hell Peter, I'm trying to heal myself and not think about some of - all of - those results!

Yeah they rested all 11 on Saturday against kidsgrove. Worth looking at the highlights of the game for kidsgrove 2nd goal. Unbelievable strike from about 40 yards on the angle, diagonal into the top corner.

Good luck tomorrow Reds. Thwarted twice by covid and then by an inexplicable failure to beat the worst team in the league when the title was there for the taking, let's hope it's a case of fourth time lucky. Is Reds v Runcorn at Borough Park on Saturday too much to ask for? Here's hoping....

First stage of the Play Offs completed successfully well done Reds. Its certainly not time to count ones chickens yet BUT a similar performance with a great crowd backing them and the deserved reward for a season of hard work by all is there to be grabbed. Fact is Jim A has a much quieter night than he could have imagined.

SUPERB.Way better performance than I expected and with the Runcorn win meaning we are at home I don't think reds can ask for much more tonight. Cagey first half, dominated the 2nd. Jim was superb with his distribution and made a great stop from their free kick. Riggy immense at CB, really took me by surprise. Rueben was superb up front too. Could mention them all by name really. Only bad performance for me was the Ref. Sounds like our pen maybe wasn't? But he missed at least 1 stone wall pen for the handball and another decent shout. Also very inconsistent. Onto Saturday now 🤞🤞🤞

Even when things weren't quite falling our way in the first half (and in the final third after half time), we never stopped putting Clitheroe under pressure and completely stopped them from playing. There'll be some tired bodies this morning, but hopefully everyone's ready to go again on Saturday!

Agree with all the posts, that the lads played really well. I only get to 3-4 home games a season, living in Glasgow, so not as well qualified to comment as regulars.
I was really impressed with all the players, but hadn't seen Jerome play this well before. Jerome has everything speed, skill and strength, and their defenders couldn't handle him and Symington at the same time with Jim pinging those quick balls out on breakaways - it is a real threat.
In midfield I was really impressed with Carroll's lively style, and Tinnion is a total class act playing just in front of the back four
Defence looked solid, and considering Rigg is a makeshift centre-half, deserves extra credit.
Just really hope they can repeat that level of performance for 1 more game this weekend, because they are well capable of beating anyone in the league. I have booked my ticket again for Saturday and hope I can raise a glass to Danny and the boys on Saturday night - my wife thinks I'm mad - COYR

We could attach ourselves to some PL club and bask in the reflected glory. But we have chosen a harder path for ourselves. And given the last time we had anything to to celebrate in the league was the 2005 play off final this is a very hard path. But there's nothing we can do about it is there?

As I left West Cumbria a little matter of 54 years ago, I don't think my wife quite understands my attachment to Reds, either. But there it is - and I'll be there on Saturday for this latest chapter in a story which goes back to the days of Bill Shankly, Joe Harvey, Ken Furphy, et al.
