Thought Matt Henney did a great job on the radio commentary on Tuesday (listened when driving back to Glasgow after the match) - he certainly offered plenty of interesting insights, and know alot about the Reds current players.

Hello all, it’s Matt H… this is subject that has wound me up for years! It Just took a guy on here to make something up and all just went with it.. I mean in the return fixture at borough park those who can remember will have seen me put my head down and walk back to the halfway line when barrow went 1-0 up, it was hard not to celebrate as we were closing in on the playoffs! But the reception I got off the 600 or so at borough park was class. The respect was returned. Iv always seen reds as my team alongside barrow, both clubs & fans amazing to me in my career and I loved playing for both…. Anyway , I hope this manages to clear up the 💩 Huge game tomorrow and can’t wait to see the reds secure promotion, a promotion which they thoroughly deserve and should have happened 2 or 3 times over in the last few years. All the best Matt Henney ⚽️

Many thanks for the post Matt. I also listened to your radio Cumbria interview after the match on Tuesday, which helped to clear things up for me. It was a sad day when you left the Reds, especially to go to Barrow, who, it is hard to believe in 2023, were rivals in the same league at that time. Our paths have gone in different directions since then but hopefully tomorrow will see Reds move up a league.

Thanks GS red, It was a tough decision and wasn’t easy ! my mother & father in-law and even partner Laura didn’t approve because they are big reds fans ..but after so many years under Tommy and not being fully aligned with his views I felt it was time for a change and a break needed by both parties, I kind of felt a little staleness creeping in , so I left for barrow for the same wage as I was being paid at reds, the money was never a motivation for me

No one can ever forget Matt Henney when he played for the Reds as he was pure class and a pleasure to watch. I was gutted when he left us for Barrow but as he pointed out he had his reasons. So welcome back Matt as a spectator and hope you can make it on a regular basis to Bprough Park next season when I truly hope that we will be in the league above. The players and manager deserve it after a brilliant season. Good luck on Saturday Reds.

Great Workington stalwart. When I relaunched Reds Review in 2001 Matt was on the front cover leading a training session run at Borough Park. Once Workington, always Workington . . and only Workington.

matt seems an honest player. not a lot of fans will know this . Edmo offered him a 2 year contract. matt was 34 his body was letting him down .He did not sign a contract what was offerd to him . The reds would have to pay him week in week out while injured. He said pay as i play. He only lasted 4 months . so how many players do we know who would do that. matt would have played for us for nothing credit to the lad

Kudos to Matt, along with John Walsh, for making the broadcast on Tuesday very entertaining for those listening in locations many miles away. I'll be doing the same tomorrow with a beer in hand and hoping the Reds finally clamber back up one tier!

Matt didn't "kiss the badge" but obviously was going to get some stick for playing for Barrow. That time was a long time ago and I hope Matt brings us some luck today!
