If any of you had told me that we would start the season with a win, score five goals, keep a clean sheet and be top of the league by the evening, I would have suggested you see a doctor! What a start! I was on the live scoreboard and couldn't believe the first half goals. And on it went in the second. So we head into our first away game top of the league. A trip to Morpeth who opened their campaign with a 2-2 draw at Basford. Morpeth finished last season in 17th of 22. Two places and 3 points clear of relegation. Morpeth recent history: 2016 Won the FA Vase, defeating Hereford 4-1 at Wembley 2018 finished runners up in Northern League Division one and promoted to NPL East Division One 2019 winners of NPL East Division One and promoted to NPL Premier Reds are 1st with 3 points from 1 game Morpeth are 9th with 1 point from 1 game Morpeth at home last season was 9-3-9 Reds away last season 12-2-5 Morpeth's final home game of last season was a 3-3 with Warrington Rylands. Come on you Reds

Tonights game will be a good test for Reds defensive qualities as one feels that going forward Reds always have goals in their tank. Reds have a tight knit squad working for each other and would take this over a big money signing every time. COYR give it your best shot .

Hopefully that is the end of the Rigg at CB experiment, he had 1 good showing against Sefton Gonzales in the play off semi, playing there out of neccessity! but he made a mistake that gifted a goal in the Play off Final and almost an identical one tonight, and made a similar one on Saturday that should have lead to a goal but wasnt taken.
He was sent off for 2 challenges that an experienced CB probably avoids (at least the 2nd one in the context of the game already 3 down).
Need to spend that Budget Booster on a At least one new CB as we cannot be going into games in this league without a recognised one, was fine in the league below but this is a much tougher division.
As for the game as a whole, we struggled due to being closed down consistently, created a couple of early chances which had we taken might have made all the difference but we were largely out fought and out classed for most of the game. Hit the bar twice but in reality they were isolated chances in 2nd half rather than due to us looking like scoring.
All three goals were poor to conceed, 1st a corner that we just didnt clear and then seemed to trickle in from a pea roller shot, 2nd was poor Rigg Clearence and third was from us losing possession in our third then a shot from distance that Jim gets a hand to but only helps it over the line via the bar rather than saving it.

Yeah I agree with you on the CB situation. Danny said post match Goose is struggling with Saturday Tuesdays, Sam's spent quite a bit of time injured these last few seasons so we definitely need a CB thats as good as those 2 to add competition and cover. I see Riggy as more of an emergency CB if we have a few injuries/suspensions. Not someone who's going to start 20+ games there. He really grew on me last season, thought he has some excellent games in midfield. But I think the step up in level plus moving him to a new position isn't doing him many favours. Really need to get something at Ilkeston saturday, as Tuesday against Radcliffe will be very tough and we don't want 3 straight defeats. COYR

Miserable night all round with pouring rain, crap commentary an an equally dismal display by the Reds by all accounts. Thought we would do better than we seemingly did given our excellent performance on Saturday against Ashton. Hope we do better on Saturday!

We really do need a centre half as goose is goosed and sam is injury prone, no good putting a young boy and riggy as centre halfs, if they do we will be in for some hidings when we play the better teams in this league, also need another wide player as we only have dav and the young lad on loan.

No need to panic just yet. Although we got beat, there were still positives. The boys passed the ball round well, stuck to the ‘playing out from the back’ philosophy and endeavoured to be creative. At no point did they crumble or look like they were getting battered.
A couple more signings would be very desirable right now but there were some decent performances Tuesday night. Aidy, Greg, Scotty and Finn all did well imho..

Having watched the highlights Morpeths experience on the football surface seemed more assured and they got the breaks in or around the area. Interesting listening to Andrew Johnsons assessment that Reds were a good team and not many would beat them by 3. Remember we are in a League above last season it will take time to settle and it would bebgreat to strengthen the squad with games coming fast and furious.Keep to the gameplan Reds
