We've just had a penalty saved at Matlock. I have no evidence, but seem to recall a number of penalties in recent seasons that Reds have failed to convert. Does anybody have the stats? I reckon we have missed more than we have converted over the last 2 or 3 years?

Thanks for posting - I had been about to post a query with regards to Reds' pens. Firstly the recent record - Reds have a conversion rate of 15/24 (63%) that covers this season so far plus the last two campaigns and that is moderate at best. Only 5/11 were scored last season. The puzzle for me is why the most successful penalty taker on the books, Scott Allison, has not been taking spot-kicks when he has been on the pitch. Yesterday, for instance, Scottie was an onlooker when Conor took a penalty that resembled a pass-back and our most reliable taker was also on the pitch for two of the three Lewis Reilly missed last season. Reilly and Tinners seemed to get the nod (from the gaffer?) ahead of Scottie, who may of course have given up the job having missed a couple.
Here are the Reds career records for current players - at least Dav hasn't taken one for a while....
Scott 23/29 = 79% Rigg 3/4 = 75% Tinnion 5/8 = 63% Symington 7/13 = 54% Reilly 1/4 = 25%

I agree. Our penalty taking record is crap. Since Arnie left after being treated quite disgracefully by the dynamic duo we have no bona fied penalty taker. If we had scored the pen then we woud have won! So very disapointing. Maybe Danny should come clean and tell us why Scottie is not taking them as he is the best of the bunch!
Apart from that, credit to the Reds for comeing from behind to get a point. Well done lads.

Scott Allison must have had a great record in his early days for reds,im sure i seen him miss 2 last season though, Rigg missed a crucial one at Leek a couple of seasons ago but Conor Tinnion scored a crucial pressure one against Clitheroe in last years play offs, maybe one of the other lads fancy a crack at it

Scottie did fail with two last season - one was saved at Macclesfield when we were on top in the game and he missed one in that debacle at home to rock-bottom Rammy when Louis Reilly took the 2nd pen and also missed (saved). However Scott has scored 15 of his last 18 penalties since resuming the role six years ago.
You are right about Tinners' pressure Panenka pen v Clitheroe - it's just the overall individual stats are strongly in favour of Scott being first choice. Unless he has personally given up the job I think it is strange that in these data driven days (even at Reds' level) he is not our go-to man from 12 yards.

Interesting topic and stats Our recent conversion rate of 63% while not great is much better than I thought! Although on average around 4 out of 5 pens(80%) are usually converted so still falling well short. Like others have said Scotty should still be taking them if on pitch unless he's said he doesn't want.
