So after the Marine trilogy, we end up out of the FAC but 3 points better off in the league. Could even be a six pointer, albeit so early in the season. Disappointed that our FAC run didn't progress, but promotion has to be our number one priority and I for one would have accepted this outcome before the trilogy commenced.
So we now find ourselves with a 100% record in the league after 3 matches. Mossley also have a 100% record, but we are the only team in the league yet to concede a goal. Having hosted the league's leading team on Saturday, we now find ourselves travelling to the new leaders. Clitheroe are one of five teams still undefeated and they have one point than Reds due to playing a 4th game.
Clitheroe are 1st with 10 points from 4 games
Reds are 2nd with 9 points from 3 games
Recent Clitheroe results:
28 Aug Glossop NE 0-2 Clitheroe
25 Aug Clitheroe 7-1 Bootle
22 Aug Northwich Victoria 1-2 Clitheroe (FACPR)
17 Aug Prescot 2-3 Clitheroe
14 Aug Clitheroe 2-2 1874 Northwich
Clitheroe overall this season 4-1-0
Reds overall this season 3-1-1
Although conceding a 90th minute equaliser in the first match saw Clitheroe held to a 2-2 draw, they have won each of their subsequent 4 matches. Not goal shy, they are also the league's leading scorers with 14.
So early in the season, but we could be up against another team pushing for a top position come the end of the campaign.
3rd place Mossley host 4th place Ramsbottom in another top of the table clash.
Reds have made a terrific start under the new boss. If you could the replay at Marine as a draw at 90 minutes, we are yet to be defeated over that time period. This will likely be yet another tough outing. Perhaps a subtle benefit to Reds is that as the fixture is a 1500 KO, the trip is not a typical midweek after work 1930 KO.
Come on you Reds.
