With the Bootle farce meaning yet another game was postponed, this trip to Leek is only our 3rd league match since 1 February. That's almost six weeks. Thanks to postponements, and from what I can gather, poor scheduling, means we will end up ........unsurprisingly.......with an end of season fixture pile up. And that's without any decent cup runs!
Sorry. Rant over. I am here to provide the stats.
Leek Town are on a tremendous run and are challenging for the title themselves. They haven't lost since a 2-1 defeat at Trafford on 11 Dec. Following 4 wins from 4 matches in Jan, they have only drawn once, winning another 4 league matches in Feb and March.
Leek are 3rd with 65 points from 30 games Reds are 2nd with 65 points from 28 games
Leek at home 9-4-1 Reds away 10-2-1
Recent Leek results: 5 Mar Leek 2-1 Rams 26 Feb Prescot Cables 0-1 Leek 19 Feb Leek 2-1 Glossop NE 12 Feb Leek 2-0 Colne 5 Feb Leek 2-2 City of Liverpool 1 Feb Leek 3-0 Lichfield City (Staffordshire SC QF)
Leek overall since 1 Jan 9-1-0 Reds overall since 1 Jan 7-0-2
On paper this looks a difficult trip for Reds. With only one draw between the teams in 18 matches, it looks like somebody will take three points. The reverse fixture at Borough Park on 11 Sept ended 1-1.
Other significant fixtures today: City of Liverpool v Rylands (1st) Marine (4th) v 1874 Northwich
Current top of the league using played, points and goal difference
Rylands 31 68 +45
Reds 28 65 +36
Leek 30 65 +32
Marine 29 65 +25
Rylands have a tricky trip to CoL, and with an away record of 8-4-3, they only win 50% of time time on the road. Marine 11-0-3 should beat 1874 Northwich.
A win would make up for the defeat to Widnes, but it is probably important not to lose this one. Although still in charge of our own destiny, we can't afford any slip ups.
Come on you Reds.

tickets here leektownfc.ktckts.com/event/lkt2122h16/leek-town-vs-workingtonWorried about this one, with no Goose available and us badly out of match practice, we played well at lancaster though and we do have the best squad in the division so we should go there with confidence we can get a result. A draw isnt a disaster either, a win would be a big statement.

Went to the cup game there….we outplayed em all over the park when they sat top of their league Their squad ain’t too dissimilar to that last visit. I think we will match up well against em. what damage the enforced break has done though…..

Feels like a Cup Final day today, maybe that is because it's been so long since a competitive game. Went to Harrison Park twice in early 2000s, once when there was snow on the ground and another time when we scored a last minute goal to grab the points, or might have been a point. Anyway, the four hour journey home to Maryport flew by because my mate, Ron, and I were buzzing!!

Listened to the match on the radio. Cannot believe that we did not score and get three points. But I guess when you miss a penalty what more is there to be said. So very disappointed with the result.

Yeah in the end its a disappointing result as we had the ball in the net and took a poor penalty whilst keeping them pretty quiet all game. Some of our attacking players didn't do enough in my opinion with some poor final balls and poor set pieces all game. Props to Brad Carroll for doing a good job standing in for Goose but thats 2 games now without scoring which is a worry.
That said i'd have taken a point at the start of the day given whats been going on with cancelled games recently so need to look at the bigger picture still in our own hands and one of our tougher games ticked off

Frustrating not to win. Better team , missed the pen and a couple of other good chances. Much better performance than Widnes. Still in our hands gonna be a big 6 weeks! Hopefully we'll have everyone fit and available

I'm still shaking my head in disbelief that we didn't win that. Second half we played as well as we've done all season but of course the missed penalty cost us - seemed a strange decision for Rigg to take it as he was obviously struggling from a first half knock. Credit to Leek who defended well getting umpteen blocks in, but they offered next to nothing up front. Rigg and Brad Hubbold missed other good chances as did Sam Smith at the death. Don't want to be too critical as the lads put everything in to it on a difficult surface. MOTM for me was Matty Clarke - he's a bit of an unsung hero but was superb today, both defensively and in the 2nd half a potent attacking outlet.

They defended excellently. Got to give the Reds plenty of credit, they were 3rd in the league and on a good run - pressing and commitment from us was excellent, pinned em back for long periods in the 2nd half, with some decent football. If we show that level every week the law of averages will surely give us the title…how we didn’t win is beyond me…

Definitely the better team and unlucky not to win. Not that many good chances in the game but apart from maybe one all others fell to us. Maybe a draw not the worst and much better than the Widnes performance. Biggest positive is it now looks like were finally gonna have a full squad available for what's going to be a hectic and hopefully exciting run in.
