As if we really need reminding, supporting the Reds comes with a Government Health Warning. Just when we thought we were in charge of our own destiny, another defeat to another lowly team and we trail Leek once again. One game to go, one point behind Leek, two goals behind Leek. Whilst we are assured of a home semi final, we now need things to go our way (how often does that happen for Reds?) to guarantee a 2nd place finish.
The four play off teams were confirmed when Mossley failed to defeat City of Liverpool on Sunday. Just a matter of the four jostling for final positions. Reds will be at home to Clitheroe or Runcorn regardless of today's results.
A small matter of defeating Colne - another lowly team, lies in the way though. They are trying to avoid relegation and could go down if Glossop NE get a better result at Bootle than Colne do at Borough Park.
Reds are 3rd with 72 from 37 games
Colne are 19th with 36 points from 37 games
Reds at home 10-4-4
Colne away 3-6-9
Recent Colne results:
15 April Colne 0-1 Leek
10 April Clitheroe 4-1 Colne
8 April Colne 0-1 Widnes
1 April Colne 2-1 Rams
28 Mar Colne 2-3 Reds
25 Mar Bootle 1-2 Colne
18 Mar Colne 1-2 Newcastle
4 Mar Skem 2-1 Colne
Reds overall since 1 March 7-0-3
Colne overall since 1 March 2-0-6
Reds are chasing Leek for second place:
Leek 73pts GD 30 Scored 67
Reds 72pts GD 28 Scored 67
Remaining fixtures are:
Reds - Witton(h 5-0) Kidsgrove(a 1-3) Northwich(a 4-3) Colne(h)
Leek - Rams(a 2-3) Newcastle(h 0-1) Colne(a 0-1) Skem(h)
Our other two play off combatants in their final league fixtures:
Clitheroe v Kidsgrove
Trafford v Runcorn
Runcorn have to win to improve their final position. and hope that Clitheroe drop points.
All will become clearer on Saturday evening. Come on Reds, get the job done and hopefully we can steal 2nd place from Leek.
In other news, Marine and Rylands who won promotion last season will both end their first season up a level in the top half. Well done to them.
Come on you Reds.
