I seem to have provoked an extreme reaction which wasn't my intention.
I do think her achievements speak for themselves. There wouldn't be many other 24 year old professional footballers globally that could claim to have already achieved what Ella has in the game. She definitely qualifies as an elite sportsperson.
Her name would be known around the globe to those with an interest in football, in my opinion. I think it's a special opportunity for a club like reds to have her visit us. I just wanted to share how much I appreciated it.

👍 except for one change, IMO you have the wrong Martin should be Geoff. No doubt some players from the fifties would also figure.

Geoff was very good, strong and direct but john was the most exciting player i ever saw in a reds shirt. The goal he scored against rochdale in the facup around 1969,was the best goal i have seen in a live game.

Let's just hope Ella doesn't read this forum, or a lot of my time and hers may appear to have been wasted. Superstar or not you can't deny she or any of the Lionesses for that matter are box office at the minute. Yes they may not appeal to everyone but for a certain demographic male or female they are fantastic role models and long may that continue. We as a club need to be more accepting of the younger members of our community and their wants and needs and a huge amount of work has gone into that. A quick look at the Social Media interaction over the past ten days will show you just how much more reaction the posts with Ella in have had. She has been an absolute pleasure to have around the place and a massive positive for us as a club to have her help us out.

If you want to put her in the same bracket as Pele, Maradona, Best, Zidane, Messi, Ronaldo etc etc, the true superstars of football then you're getting a bit carried away by this ridiculous hype. This laughable state of affairs to placate the woke generation was summed up by a female goalkeeper winning BBC SPOTY - a goalkeeper whose only claim to fame as far as I can see is screaming 'F*** Off' in a losing final. Yet she was determined to be more worthy of the accolade than the likes of Stuart Broad & Frankie Dettori, whilst Josh Green didn't even make the final 6. I'm sure Ms Toone, Ms Earps etc are good at what they do, but football superstars? Do me a favour. I'll refer you to my previous response, Re: Joey Barton/Alex Scott. (I think we all now know which of these two more reflects your point of view on the state of the game?) In the eye's of the Reds Juniors U9's at Tuesday match, Dav Symington & Jim Atkinson are football superstars. To have a current England Lioness take quite a bit of her time at Tuesday night's match to make of Workington AFC Academy Girls is worthy of her being called a football superstar, in more than my humble opinion. If you'd like to arrange for any of your named ' true' football superstars to attend a match at Borough Park, take time to talk to the boys and girls from our local grassroots Teams and be available for umpteen photos and selfies with anyone that wants to take them, the Directors would be very appreciative. Joey Barton is quite correct. I'll leave you to enjoy your women's football. I'm only concerned with Reds upcoming games. Have a great Christmas.

Then it's a good job the Directors of Workington AFC are moving the WHOLE Club forward in the current times and not stuck in a distant bygone era that one of our supporters appears to want to condone on this forum.....
Have a great Christmas yourself & let's hope we celebrate a few wins by the Men's 1st Team and points to push us further up the league table.

Personally I have no interest in "womans" football whatsoever & wouldn't have recognised Miss.Toone even if I was standing beside her on Tuesday but in my opinion she should be applauded not only for what she has achieved in her life ( I would have loved to have played for my country) but also for taking the time out to meet, have pictures taken & to talk to all those youngsters. Perhaps the headphone wearing, overpaid, superstar prima donnas in the mens game could learn a thing or to from her on how to engage with those who aspire to be like them

Its pretty poor form that a positive engagement by the club has brought out some of the reactions on here, what i witnessed on Tuesday was a lot of extra kids and parents with smiling faces happy to be part of a community club, to all involved at the club especially Richard and Simon keep it going the young boys and girls are the future of a community club and the improvement in engagement with the youth teams has improved year on year. Personally wouldnt listen to anything joey barton says his record as a person speaks volumes enough.

Its not often we can promote the club by letting people know that an England international ( in whatever team) was at Borough Park, the last one I can recall was Paul Stewart so why cant everyone just take the positives from this while it lasts. PS I thought Macclesfield, for a full time team were poor & not a patch ob either Radcliffe or Worksop.
