Editing again....at the third time of asking......... Did we ever get confirmation about Bootle's 'excuse' for postponing the 8 March fixture? Did a referee confirm the issue or did they just make it up themselves?
Bootle are 7th with 55 points from 34 games
Reds are 2nd with 76 points from 33 games
Bootle at home 10-0-7
Reds away 11-4-1
Recent Bootle results:
2 April Leek 3-1 Bootle
29 Mar Bootle 1-2 Clitheroe
26 Mar Bootle 0-3 Kidsgrove
22 Mar Runcorn 3-1 Bootle
19 Mar Bootle 1-0 Widnes
12 Mar Newcastle Town 0-2 Bootle
Bootle overall since 1 Feb 4-0-6
Reds overall since 1 Feb 4-2-1
Having been on a decent run, Bootle have lost 4 on the bounce, including 2 matches at home. Their challenge for the play offs (where they were positioned for postponed matches) has now frittered away. We can confirm that they will play in this league season by beating them on 5 April. Their form and position made the 8 March fixture look tricky. Maybe things have actually worked in Reds' favour and we can take advantage of their current poor form.
This is the only midweek fixture and we can bring ourselves to within one point of Rylands with a victory making for a huge title challenging clash at Borough Park on Saturday.
Come on you Reds.
Editing this original thread from the game that was postponed on 8 Feb.
From 8 Feb....."Sounds like the weather conditions were not great on Saturday at Borough Park, but nothing can stop the mighty Red train from rolling on and collecting yet another three points. That makes nine wins on the bounce in the league. That last team we failed to take all the points from was Bootle who held us to a 2-2 back on 7 December. Back then we were 3rd in the league. Now we head to Bootle as league leaders and looking for win number ten on the bounce."
Bootle have added three home victories since the postponement.
Bootle are now 6th with 49 points from 28 games. They were 9th with 40 points from 24 games
Reds are now 2nd with 65 points from 28 games. We were 1st with 65 points from 27 games
Bootle at home 9-0-5 from 6-0-5
Reds away 10-2-1 (no change)
Recent Bootle results:
5 Mar Bootle 3-2 1874 Northwhich
1 Mar Glossop NE 3-2 Bootle
26 Feb Bootle 4-0 Market Drayton
12 Feb Bootle 3-1 City of Liverpool
8 Feb Bootle p-p Reds
29 Jan Bootle 3-0 Colne
22 Jan Prescot 2-1 Bootle
15 Jan Rams 2-3 Bootle
27 Dec Marine 0-3 Bootle
18 Dec Bootle 3-0 Mossley
11 Dec Kendal 2-4 Bootle
7 Dec Reds 2-2 Bootle
4 Dec Bootle 2-4 Rylands
Bootle overall since 1 Jan 5-0-2
Reds overall since 1 Jan 7-0-2
The title was looking more like a two horse race but now four teams are challenging. Bootle are in with a shout of making the play offs. They still have a game in hand of teams just above them so will also be keen for the points.
Current top of the league using played, points and goal difference
Rylands 31 68 +45
Reds 28 65 +36
Leek 30 65 +32
Marine 29 65 +25
We originally were aiming for a tenth league win on the bounce. Sadly the postponement voided that, and it we didn't play again until the home match v Widnes which didn't go to plan. Amazingly, Reds have only fulfilled two fixtures since 30 January.
This is probably an even more trickier fixture than it would have been back on 8 Feb. Since then, Reds have played one, lost one. Bootle have won each of their three home games and haven't lost at home since the 2-4 defeat by Rylands back on 4 Dec.
Reds sit three points behind Rylands but with three games in hand. We are level on points with Leek and Marine but have games in hand. After the disappointing result v Widens our breathing space has diminished and we could do with taking three points back to Borough Park before we head to Leek on Saturday. Another difficult fixture. Come on you Reds.
